Mademoiselle Chi Chi & QMilch: Eco Fashion Made from Milk

Who knew that fermented milk could be transformed into a soft, luxurious fabric? I was amazed to find out that German fashion designer and biochemist Anke Domaske was able to invent QMilch, an eco-friendly fabric that is similar to the fine texture of silk.

Based in Hanover, Germany, Domaske's fashion label Mademoiselle Chi Chi has been using QMilch fabric to make her gorgeous dresses. Its fluid, lightweight texture seem to make these dresses universally flattering. They're perfect year-round and are extremely versatile for any occasion. I love this red one below.

According to Domaske, it takes 20,000 liters (roughly 5,283 gallons) of water to make one kilo (2.2 pounds) of cotton. QMilch only uses two liters per kilo. Unlike the milk fabric that was developed in the 1930s, her milk protein (casein) extraction process doesn't involve any chemicals. She also said her fabric is non-allergenic and antibacterial.

I personally can't wait to see Domaske's fashion enter the U.S. market. I'd love to try these dresses on!
