Tarte 10th Anniversary Eco Makeup

Tarte is one eco-friendly makeup line that I can rely on. To celebrate 10 years of green beauty, they launched a stunning gold-studded TEN Limited Edition Collector's Palette for Fall. It's such a bargain at $44 - the retail value is $182. You get ten matte and metallic mineral eyeshadows to blend to your heart's content. The colors are mostly wearable and easy to blend. You can also refill the palette when you finish any of the magnetic eyeshadow pans.

The colors didn't crease and I wore them for over ten hours without primer. Quite impressive. The brush that came with it was really soft but it wasn't easy to use. You can pack the lid with product but I'd use another brush to blend properly. As a bonus, this also comes with a travel size mascara and double-sided eye liner pencil (black/plum). As with the rest of the makeup line, there are no parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, synthetic fragrance, dyes or sulfates in this palette.

To continue with the celebration festivities there is also a TEN Natural Cheek Stain. The bright pink color is very light and natural and I needed about three to four layers before I got the desired shade intensity. It brings out a very pretty glow to the cheeks. This contains a t5 super fruit complex™ (goji, acai, maracuja, acerola and pomegranate) and it's supposed to fight free radical damage with Tarte's proprietary blend of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

The emphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow/Liner is just fabulous. It can smudge a bit if you rub your eyes but overall it does a nice job of staying on the eyelid. This contains Amazonian white clay to reduce surface oil and to nourish the skin. It used to be $44 but you can get it for $22. This also comes with a double tipped eye brush/liner. If you don't like using a pot and brush, the intensely pigmented emphasEYES Aqua-gel Eyeliner is also really smooth to apply and is smudge resistant. So easy to glide on - I love the Plum and Green shades.

To follow in the footsteps of the original lip stains, the new LipSurgence Natural Matte Lip Stain gives a great matte finish without being heavy or drying the lips. Four new shades are introduced and I got to try Envy, a mauve berry shade. Infused with peppermint and jojoba seed oils, this clinically-proven lip stain will increase moisture content by 6,000% after 28 days.

As for complexion, the Smooth Operator oil-free tinted moisturizer (SPF 20) works well for me. My face didn't get greasy and the color is barely there if you want a really natural look. I veer between shades 10 Conceal and 14 Disguise, depending on how dark my skin gets from the sun. This goes very well with The Eraser 4-in-1 Natural Concealer, which gave decent coverage and didn't crease on my under eye area.

Purchase at Sephora and tartecosmetics.com.

Smudge-resistant -- my favorite phrase when it comes to eye makeup! Especially for those of us with oily or combo complexions, it's a godsend.

Me too! You will like these liners. Very pigmented and unless you start crying a lot, it won't come off.

I know, can't believe it's been 10 years. The liners are really nice. You just need to be careful because they're so soft to handle.

I find eco products so interesting. You've got to be careful. Just because it's organic does not mean it's without its risks. I did a quick look on the Cosmetics Database and found that only one out of the 70 products the Environmental Working Group reviewed was considered "low risk" in terms of chemical hazards. http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/browse.php?brand_id=1382

Yes - as with everything else, you do need to read the labels carefully, as not many products are 100% organic in content.

Thanks for this review! I tried Tarte years ago and had actually sort of forgotten about them. I LOVE eyeshadow palettes and I think instead of getting my usual MAC this year, maybe I'll go for this one.

I'm also becoming increasingly aware of all the nasty stuff in makeup - it is shocking! So I'd love to use a more natural line. Thanks for the tips!

Tori - so glad you liked the post. It's a great palette. Totally worth the splurge for less chemicals in your skin.
