New Chocolate Bars From Recchiuti
When a box of Recchiuti Confections chocolate bars arrived at my doorstep, I clapped my hands in glee. Artisan chocolatier Michael Recchiuti had redesigned and expanded his signature line to include four new flavors. Not surprisingly, each one contains a proprietary blend of dark and milk chocolates from Valrhona.
The rich Sesame Nougatine, a variation of his Sesame Nougatine truffle, is an instant favorite. Toasted white sesame seeds, cane sugar and sea salt are combined to make a crunchy nougatine. Mixed with dark milk chocolate, this bar made me swoon. The semisweet Orchard bar, another favorite, rocked my world with its blend of burnt caramel almonds, mulberries, black currants and fleur de sel. I can't decide which one is better - it'd have to depend on my mood.
For something slightly less decadent, the Hazelnut bar is filled with tiny caramelized pieces of Oregon hazelnuts, a dash of fleur de sel, and dark milk chocolate. Ditto for the Almond bar, except that one contains semisweet chocolate. The purists, however, can choose from Dark Milk, Bittersweet, Feve, and the smoky, fruity Semisweet. I've been buying the Dark Milk bar for a long time but I'm enjoying the bright, floral Criollo beans in the Bittersweet bar. If you love cacao nibs, don't miss the earthy Feve bar.
Available at Recchiuti.com and at the SF Ferry Building Marketplace.
