Bar Gelato By Naia

Thanks to the heat wave earlier this week, I was practically wilting whenever I was outside. The minute I got home I would indulge in a few bites of Bar Gelato, a new line of frozen treats from Gelateria Naia.

That's right folks, you can get fancy, handmade gelato on a stick. Each bar contains whole rBST-free California milk and ingredients from local farmers and food artisans. They also don't have any corn syrup, which is a huge plus. Since they're made with milk, not cream, the ingredients are the stars of the show.

Hands down, my favorites are Nocciola and Pistachio. Naia sources their hazelnuts from Freddy Guy Farms in Oregon, while the hand-roasted pistachios are from Fiddyment Farms. Both deliver a supremely intense and fragrantly nutty result. You can feel the ground nuts as you take each precious bite. I usually try to savor my gelato but these bars were inhaled in record time.

I loved TCHO Chocolate, which contains raw Ghana cacao liquor. It was like eating a frozen brownie.  The Blue Bottle Coffee is made with cold-pressed beans (fabulous!) and the St. George Spirits bar uses a 10-year single malt whiskey. Talk about decadent desserts.

I also enjoyed the Numi Jasmine, but I wished it had a stronger flavor. The Madagascar Vanilla is not a Plain Jane. The vanilla comes from the Madagascar Bourbon Isles and it stands out on its own. For those who want non-dairy options, the lovely kiwi sorbetto is made with whole fresh fruit from California and New Zealand.

Available at Whole Foods in Northern California for $1.99 each (3 ounces). For more info check out www.bargelato.com.

Mmm, weren't these awesome? The sample did not last long in our house, that's for sure. I still think the St. George single malt one just might be my fave. ;)
