Kenneth Cole New York S/S 2010

The official start of Spring is 2.5 weeks away (yes I'm counting down the days). To usher in my favorite season I'm been thinking about ways to spruce up my Spring wardrobe without killing the piggy bank.

This lovely stretch silk Cowl Neck Dress from Kenneth Cole adds a splash of color and sophistication. The floral patten is feminine yet sexy in a subtle way. It looks very chic with a trench coat.

I don't usually wear navy, but this dress has an elegant tuxedo front that captured my attention. You can dress this versatile piece up or down.

If you haven't tried the 925 Technology, you need to get your tootsies into some of their shoes. The entire line of footwear now offers flexible rubber soles and Poron foam layers for shock absorption, so you can actually wear 4-5 inch heels and not worry about blisters and sore arches.

These sandals are a bit too wild for me but they are great party shoes. You can even dance comfortably in them all night - what a novelty.

Givenchy Beauty Spring 2010 & Custom Makeup Giveaway!

The Givenchy Le Makeup line loves to reinvent itself each season. For example, their Spring 2010 launch has a new Le Prisme Mono eyeshadow. Each monochrome quad has four different textures (matte, iridescent, glittering, pearlescent) for each color, so you can achieve an endless array of looks.
givenchy_spring2010_YeuxMono.jpg
The Dressy Indigo looks so rockin' but it's too bold for my tastes. I preferred Hip Grey 03, New Look Mauve 02, and Casual Khaki 12. These cuties are so small and thin you can easily slip a couple into your purse without bulking it up. Paired with the new Parad’Eyes Liner in Mauve Impression (mauve with white and pink pearlescent highlights), your peepers will really dazzle this season.
givenchy_yeuxMono.jpg

The new formula for Le Prisme Blush has a higher concentration of pigments. Delivering more bang for your buck, you can really see the color payoff. The 4 shades within the quad may be used alone or mixed together for a custom look. I tried the Aficionado Peach 23 and the coral shades gave a nice pop of color to my cheeks.
Givenchy_spring2010_blush.jpg

The ultra lightweight Le Prisme Visage face powder has an improved texture. The Peach Plumetis 83 and Beige Mousseline 84 shades practically blended right into my skin, giving it a very natural finish. Like the blush, this compact has a new “clap & slide” case. The magnetic compact pops open to expose the powder, and the lower drawer slides out to reveal the brush. With softer bristles and a contoured angle, the brush design is also a new feature to optimize application. For added fun, these compacts have an eyelet for attaching cell phone charms.
LePrismeVisage_2010_givenchy.jpg

Now, here's the fun part! Givenchy offered to do a very special Custom Color Giveaway with us! Three lucky readers will be chosen for the fabulous prizes. Each winner will receive one Le Prisme Yeux Mono eyeshadow, one Le Prisme Blush and one Le Prisme Visage face powder of their choice from this new Spring collection.

Shu Uemura Egerie Spring 2010 Beauty

Shu Uemura is channeling the sexy glam rock icon this Spring. Inspired by the stage lighting from a Parisian discotheque, their new Egerie 2010 Mode Makeup collection helps you unleash your inner rock star with ease and sophistication. This line is for the modern spirit who wants to rebel yet remain elegant at the same time.
shu_egerie_spring2010.jpg

The Eye Shimmer Duo consists of two separate products. The first item is a liquid shimmer base. You start with a thin layer over the eyelid, then finish with a swath of sparkling powder. You can actually wear the liquid base by itself for an alternate look, but the finishing powder amps up the glam factor. It also has an interesting texture - it looks like a grainy powder but as you blend it into the lid it has a smooth feel that you expect from a solid cream-to-powder eyeshadow.

I liked the Glint Blue (brown base & silvery blue powder) and the Starry Violet (grey base & lavender-pink powder) shades. They're completely buildable, so you can use it for either day or night looks. This product will definitely draw everyone's attention to your eyes.
Shu_2010spring_eyeshadowduo_glintblue.jpg

As for the face, the creamy Satin Radiant Stick comes in two shades. The Highlight stick adds a very light pink-white shimmer to the forehead and upper cheekbone, while the Blush color brings a natural and healthy glow to the 'apple' of the cheek. It's totally user-friendly - you can't over apply since it's so light. You also don't have to worry about using it in natural light. It would be pretty hard to end up like a kewpie doll with this product.
Shu_satinradiant_blush.jpg

Katie White of The Ting Tings was smokin’ at the Grammys with the Egerie colors. The indie-rocker, whose band was nominated for the “Best New Artist”, rocked a sultry look created by celebrity makeup artist Amy Chance. Incorporating Katie's signature mod look, Amy worked her magic and shared her tips:

“I prepped Katie's skin with shu uemura’s red:juvenus revitalizing retexturing cream. I then used their new UV Under Base Fluid underneath her eyes and to her cheek bones. I used Armani Luminous Silk foundation to even out her skin tone, and then applied shu uemura’s Glow On blush in M Pink 31 on the apples of her cheeks. I highlighted the top of her cheek bones with Glow On in P Gold 94.

katie_white_tingtings.jpg
Credit: Getty Images

On Katie's eyes, I used shu uemura's new Eye Shimmer Duo in Glint Blue so her eyes would sparkle under the lights on the red carpet. We then used the Pressed Eye Shadow in Black 990 IR in her crease to deepen her eyes and give her a "mod", vintage look. I lined her top lids with Painting Liner in Black, and then lined her lower lid with the Drawing Pencil in ME Black. I accented her lashes with Individual Flare Lashes and Precise Volume Mascara.

Katie loves pink cheeks and lips, so to give her a final pop of color, and stay with her retro mod look, we finished her lips with Gloss Unlimited PK 344, a gorgeous bright pink. We finished her skin with Armani Fluid Sheer foundation to even out her skin tone and give it a bit of shimmer.”

Guerlain Beauty Cherry Blossom

Guerlain's Spring 2010 makeup colors emulate the first blush of springtime romance. Inspired by the delicate shades of the Far East, the Cherry Blossom collection is filled with fresh hues of pinks, corals and violet. From packaging to color payoff, this is just a stunning line.
Guerlain_Spring2010.jpg

After a cold, wet, and harsh winter, you just want to dive into these beautiful colors. The Ombre Eclat 4 Couleurs eyeshadow palette in Jeu d'Ombrelles is a kaleidoscope of purple, blue violet, pearlescent pink and white. The purples look dark in the image, but it actually goes on lightly, so it's easy to build up to a nighttime look.
Guerlain_Spring2010_eyeshadow.jpg

The Blush Eclat in Cherry Blossom resembles an intricate part of a geisha's silk kimono. Isn't this just gorgeous? The light pink and coral shades are accented with shimmering rose to create the perfect flush on the cheeks. This is fairly pigmented, so don't slap this on.
Guerlain_2010spring_blush.jpg

It's all about the lips this spring, at least according to Guerlain. Replacing the Maxi Shine formula, the new KissKiss Strass delivers maximum sparkle to your lovely lips. Available in ten permanent shades, I'm particularly in love with the shimmery Rouge Broderie 321 shade (bright raspberry) and the Rose Strass 361 (sheer pink).
Guerlain_spring2010_makeup.jpg Spring2010_kiss_strass.jpg

For the Rouge G addicts, there is a new Rouge G Le Brillant formula. Yes, ladies, this coveted lipstick collection now features ten additional colors for you to play with. I like Bella B63 (deep rose) and Bianca B21 (pink-coral). It has the same creamy texture as the original formula but this one adds a shiny finish, giving you more flirting power. C'est jolie, n’est-ce pas?

Crumbs Cupcakes

Oh, my goodness...I used to prefer local cupcake bakeries here in SF, but I believe NYC's Crumbs Bake Shop kicked our West Coast arses. I got some sample goodies to try recently and they've helped me destroy my otherwise fairly healthy diet.

First of all, their cream cheese frosting is so much better than Magnolia's buttercream frosting (Sorry, SATC fans). I just don't like it when frostings have that mega-sugary taste that's killer enough to make your teeth hurt. The same goes for that gross butterfat texture when there's too much butter or not enough sugar.

Xmas09_crumbs.jpg

But I digress. If you're in NYC, lucky you! If you live elsewhere, they do deliver them with dry ice so that they arrive in picture-perfect, ready-to-gorge condition. I loved the Raspberry Swirl, Oreo, and Red Velvet flavors. The seasonal Pumpkin cupcake is really moist and lovely, and the White Hot Chocolate has a white chocolate mousse filling inside. I can only imagine how delicious their holiday collection is. The seasonal offering includes Candy Cane, Egg Nog, Gingerbread, Peppermint Hot Cocoa, and S'Mores.

For mail orders you can only order them in their gigantic 6-oz. Signature Cupcake size, which is almost double the normal cupcake size. They were so big I couldn't finish them in one go. But that really didn't stop me from trying.

To learn more about their new products and cupcake giveaways, check out their Facebook page! Don't forget to place your holiday orders soon!

Diptyque Holiday Soaps & Candles

Diptyque has some luxurious gifts for this holiday season, and it's quite hard to choose which one to get for your loved ones. Every scent I've smelled from this Parisian company is quite bewitching.

To bring in a festive environment, the new trio of Holiday Limited-Edition Candles are a lovely addition to the home. Available in Roasted Chestnut, Evergreen, and Resin, these gorgeous candles are housed in colorful and elegant glass containers ($68). If those are not in the budget, there are also mini candles ($28) to consider. They come in the following scents: Feu de Bois (Firewood), Pomander (Orange/Clove), Cannelle (cinnamon), Amber, and Pine.

diptyque_Roasted%20Chestnut_Candle.jpg

The new milled soaps are great (and affordable) stocking stuffers for the fragrance addict. I was especially entranced by the Do Son (tuberose, orange tree leaves, rose, benzoin, iris, and white musk) soap. I'm not a huge floral gal but this one really surprised me with its freshly intoxicating scent. I was also very happy to see it available in the unisex L'Ombre dans L'Eau (black currant leaf and Bulgarian rose). These soaps are so fragrant it made my bathroom smell so nicely. They also lather up beautifully. The soap collection also features scents of Philosykos, Tam Dao, and L’eau ($15 each or three for $38).

Vosges Holiday Truffle Collection

Vosges Haut-Chocolat has some mouthwatering chocolate flavors for the holidays. Their lovely Holiday Truffle Collection pays homage to nostalgic Victorian holiday traditions. This limited edition collection is also adorned with a keepsake Jonathan Adler peace sign ornament.

holiday_vosges.jpg

Be prepared to be wowed with updated twists on classic flavors like Holiday Plum Pudding. I really loved the creamy and decadent Mascarpone and Ceylon Cinnamon Snap (Italian mascarpone, Ceylon cinnamon, organic sour cream, 45% deep milk chocolate). The Candy Cane Peppermint (All natural candy cane, peppermint, 65% dark chocolate) is deeply refreshing and the Eggnog and Jamaican Rum (Appleton Estate rum, Grenadian nutmeg, ginger, Dominican Republic white chocolate) is just amazing if you love eggnog.

luxe_casati.jpg

For more chocolate bliss, the Marchesa Casati Truffle Collection is a luxurious pearl that is meant to be slowly savored. This collection is named after Luisa Casati, one of the most scandalous figures of the early 20th century. She inspired chocolatier Katrina Markoff to create a sinfully delightful black sea salt caramel that's enrobed in 85% bittersweet dark chocolate. These precious truffles are then showered with real freshwater pearl dust. This is a rare and special collection and it will run out, so get yours soon!

Vosges also has an exclusive holiday discount code! Just type in BLGF09 at checkout and you'll get a 10% discount from now through December 31, 2009.

Guerlain 2009 Imperial Holiday

Guerlain's 2009 Imperial Holiday makeup colors are truly a royal collection filled with sumptuous jewels. Fit for any empress, this season celebrates aristocratic splendor with a refined and balanced touch.

Guerlain_Holiday09model.jpg

The Ombre Eclat 4 Shades Eye Shadow quad (in Bal de Minuit) is one of my favorites for this season. It's a pretty subdued color palette, but when you put it on, it's just gorgeous. The pearlescent texture in the two taupe shades will create a dreamy and soft smoky lid, while the lingerie pink and gold-white tones bring out the eyes' natural radiance. It's an elegant and sophisticated look without going over the top.
Guerlain_ImperialHoliday.jpg

This collection also features two shades of the Rouge G Lipstick (#11 Grace and #12 Gems). I liked Gems because of it's soft rosewood color. It compliments quite well with the eye shadows, giving you a beautiful smile without using a screaming red color. For an even more gentle shade, you an also use the KissKiss Gloss in #809 Rubis Rose (sheer plum chocolate).
Guerlain_Holiday09_rougeG.jpg

To complete the opulent look, use the Meteorites Perles Imperiales for a glowing finish. These multiple-effect pearls are re-formulated in new shades (mauve, pink, and gold) to create that fresh and illuminating complexion that we all crave. For a really fancy accessory, they also offer these pearls in a special Meteorites Voyage Imperial pressed powder compact that's decorated with Swarovski crystals. So lovely!

Armani 2009 Holiday Crystal Collection

Giorgio Armani's new Crystal Collection has a gorgeous collector's item for the beauty queens. Decked out in black and silver crystals, the limited-edition holiday colors are concealed inside the two-tiered Crystal Palette compact. If I didn't know any better it looked more like an art deco inspired jewelry case. The first level features a neutral iridescent body powder with a sparkling overlay while the bottom holds four metallic eyeshadows (shimmery jet black, bronze metal, silver, and jade).
armani_holiday_palette.jpg

Two lipsticks are also introduced within this collection. Embellished with crystals, the Crystal ArmaniSilk lipsticks come in a bright and rich ruby red and a shimmery bronze for a less intense lip.

RougedArmani_model.jpg

If you need more lip colors, the new Rouge d'Armani lipsticks are another great collection to try. These long-wearing shades are supposed to last up to 8 hours and won't feather. These are highly pigmented and feel super light, as if you're not wearing any lipstick. I really liked Pink 505, a dark berry shade that should look great on almost everyone. The magnetic closure is also an ingenious touch.

Fall Sweets From Recchiuti Confections

Halloween is coming up real soon, so all you chocoholics should stock up on gourmet treats from Recchiuti Confection's new fall lineup.

The cute and kooky characters within the 2009 Halloween Motif Boxes crack me up. Each box comes with four different hand-illustrated images that haunt their oh-so-delectable Burnt Caramel chocolates. Get them before they vanish on Halloween night!
halloween_recchiuti.jpg

I'm not a huge fan of the waxy Junior Mints, but these new Peppermint Thins are now my favorite mint candies. Made with Willamette Valley peppermint and fresh muddled mint, these lovelies are drenched in pure bittersweet chocolate. Heavenly and so refreshing! I can't seem to stop eating them...

If you want to help a local arts community, get the third edition of the Creativity Explored Box. Each Burnt Caramel chocolate is adorned with the artwork of SF artist Vincent Jackson. $2 from each sale goes to Creativity Explored, a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit, and sell art.

Vouelle Fall/Winter 2009/2010 Shoe Collection

I'm a devoted fan of Vouelle's ultra romantic shoes and I was terribly excited to see their new designs for the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 season. They're getting a bit more funky and whimsical, which is always a fun thing for all the holiday parties and soirées. Just look at this showstopper 4C stiletto! Aren't those patent leather pinwheels completely adorable? If you wear this shoe, you can be sure no one else will have it.

vouelle_4C.JPG

I so want these Dana R satin pumps. It may be in black, but the ruffled side decoration and sexy feathers will turn heads all evening. They just scream 'Paris chic' to me.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Fall 2009 Manta Ray & Eyes To Kill

Giorgio Armani Beauty's fall collection is all about the softer smoky eye, and their new Manta Ray Eye Duo palettes offer an array of colors to fit every style. As usual, these colors were inspired by the materials used in Giorgio Armani fashion accessories. Because they're less intense, these are also timeless shades that you can carry into springtime looks. I really liked the n° 3 palette, a romantic lilac grey and light fuchsia.

armani_fall09makeup.jpg

For the lips, the Armani Silk Lipstick n°92 keeps the focus right on the dramatic eyes. The grey-blue tones in this soft plum lipstick add intensity to the lip without giving a jarring contrast.
mantaray_EyeShadow_Duo.jpg

For more Fall runway variations of the smoky eye, the color purple is now the new black. The Eyes to Kill eye shadows feature a cool palette called Gun Metal Grey. This purple smoky eye can be paired with both nude and dark lips. The palette's unique bull’s eye design provide three shadows to easily line, shade, and highlight the lids. The other color palettes come in Black Steel, Brown Copper, and Red Iron. For really killer eyes, finish the look with the super volumizing Eyes To Kill Mascara.
eyes_to_kill_armani.jpg

Let's not forget about skin care! Their new Crema Nera OMC³ contains a potent Obsidian Mineral Complex, which is a patented blend of four minerals (Iron, Silicon, Sodium and Potassium). These minerals are naturally present in black obsidian stone, which gives strength to the rich soil of Pantelleria. This richly-textured cream also contains an SPF 15 sunscreen, so it does the double duty of protecting and regenerating the skin. Lines are plumped out and skin layers are restructured in no time.

Givenchy Les Poetiques 2009 Fall Makeup & Play Men's Fragrance

Givenchy Le Makeup Artistic Director Nicolas Degennes shows off a romantic mood in his Les Poétiques 2009 Fall-Winter makeup collection. Shimmery and vivid pinks, soft silvery lavender, and metallic gold all play a role in the dreamy and melancholy palette.

Les%20Poetiques.jpg

I adore the limited edition Prismissime Eyes palette in Poetique Blues. The powdery texture is super silky and glides on so nicely. The shades are all buildable from sheer to opaque. The golden beige/pink shades compliment the purples so well. You can definitely end up with a light smoky look with this palette. It's going to be one of my favorite compacts to use this season.

givenchy_poetiques_prismissime.jpg

For a dramatic eye, you can line your eyes with the Para'Eyes Liner in Poetique Lavender. The liquid liner is a dark blue shade with a metallic finish, giving it that extra ooh la la. Finally, to finish, the lips are toned down a bit for this look, with delicate pinks ruling the game. The Rouge Interdit lipstick in Poetique Iris is a pink tinged with blue, rounding out the soft and dreamy expression.

Poetiques_liner.jpg LesPoetiques_iris.jpg

Givenchy also just launched their new men's fragrance Play. The playful scent carries top notes of bergamot, mandarin orange, bitter orange, and grapefruit. Amyris wood, black pepper, and coffee flower act as middle notes while vetiver and patchouli round out the sensual base notes.

play_givenchy.jpg

I personally love it. It smells so nice I want to wear it myself as a unisex cologne. The cute bottle looks like an Mp3 player too. Doesn't Justin Timberlake look cute in their ad campaign? Click on the video link below and check out the behind-the-scenes ad shoot with JT.

Kenneth Cole 925 Technology Silver Edition Shoes

We all love 4-inch stilettos, but do we really want to walk a mile in them?

After years of research, Kenneth Cole has finally found the answer. Their new 925 Technology has a lot going for it in terms of providing comfort for the wearer. Each shoe has two layers of PORON foam (for shock absorption), a flexible rubber sole, and a flaxseed pillow for arch support.

kennethcole925silver_patent.jpgkennethcole_925_silverbelle.jpg

For the Fall season, they just launched a special Silver Edition of 925 Technology footwear, and they have several cute silhouettes for your basic needs. I tried on the black Silver Belle pump and I have to admit, they're pretty amazing. I hardly wear 4-inch heels for fear of permanently damaging my feet, but these were quite comfortable. Granted, it's never gonna feel as comfy as your old tennies, but these are the next best thing. You can wear these and not worry about seeing the podiatrist or chiropractor.

silverservice_kennethcole925.jpg

Each design also has a snazzy silver heel and will only be available on a limited basis, until they sell out. Going forward, they will apply the 925 Technology on all their women's shoe collections.

Guerlain Fall 2009 Russian Beauty Collection

From Moscow with love, the new Russian Beauty Fall 2009 makeup collection from Guerlain is inspired by model and muse Natalia Vodianova. Capturing the fragile essence of Slavic beauty, the bohemian colors are all about rosy lips, fresh cheeks, and smoky crimson eyes.
guerlain_russianbeauty_09fall.jpg

The collection features an Ombre Éclat 4 Shades Eye Shadow compact (406 Tsarina), which includes shades of faded orange, brick red, old rose and aubergine. This rich palette is reminiscent of enchanting dresses worn by Russian princesses. The sumptuous black-and-gold compact is just plain gorgeous, making you feel like royaly each time you open it. To make a smoky eye, the Retractable Eye Pencil in silvery purple Bohemian is a great way to accent the eye line. For a daytime look, use the Gold or Silver pencil to add a sparkly accent.

guerlain_fall09_makeup.jpg

To get natural lips, the Kiss Kiss Baby Nourishing Lip Balm is the way to go. The sheer shades add just the right amount color on the lip, giving that 'just bitten' effect. Wild Mango Butter and Luffa Oil make these balms really moisturizing. Plus, this also have SPF 10 to protect the lips. If you're in a hurry and have no time for your usual makeup routine, slap on this balm and you're set. I really like the 220 Red Nude shade - it's the perfect wash of rouge. For those who want to keep it real simple, they have it in a clear shade (200 Cristal Nude)
guerlain_kisskissbaby.jpg

Another new launch to look out for is the Parure Gold Rejuvenating Gold Radiance Foundation. Gold Radiance Pigments, Myrrh, and a peptide blend help illuminate the skin in a subtle manner, giving a restorative glow to the complexion. Lines are diminished, pores are reduced, and dull areas are camouflaged.

It sits very comfortably on the skin, and the shades almost blend into your own skin tone (at least for me). It comes in two options, so you get to pick the texture you prefer. I like the ultra lightweight fluid for a medium coverage. For lighter cover up I like use the powder, which you can build up to a desired coverage. It almost feels like a combination of liquid foundation and pressed powder. And, it smells so nice!

Guerlain Summer 09 Terracotta and Rouge G Lipstick

A few items from Guerlain's summer 2009 Terracotta collection is making me swoon. I just LOVE the smooth, moisturizing Gloss Cashmere Velvet Matte Gloss. It has the perfectly matte lipstick look, yet it just glides on so thinly like the lightest lip gloss. It's liquified lipstick that defies definition.

guerlain_summer09.jpg

It's so smooth and soft (no wonder they named it Gloss Cashmere), and it's not drying at all. You can also play around with it and mix it with a gloss for another look altogether. The Rose Pondichery is a sweetly neutral shade while Rouge Sultan is the classic sexy red.
guerlain_09terracotta.jpg

J'adore the Fard Indien Mineral Eyeshadow. The silky and even texture is great for blending into a smoky eye. The Jungle Dust is a gorgeous mysterious forest green that will go well on many skin tones. Blend it with a light gold shadow and you're done!

Terracotta09_shadow.jpg

The new Rouge G de Guerlain lipstick is a killer product in terms of luxury design. Jewelry designer Lorenz Bäumer came up with this seductive spygirl accessory, making you feel like a star of your own Bond flick. The white-gold coated case flicks open to reveal a mirror (I was wondering if it's got a secret camera-pistol too) that also lets you pull out a highly pigmented lipstick.

rouge_g.jpg

Ground Ruby crystal powder (lab-synthesized) and liquid mother-of-pearl help provide unprecedented radiance and light refraction. Gugul resin acts as a natural wrinkle-filler while wild mango butter keeps your lips super soft.

Available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Bergdorf Goodman.

Giorgio Armani Summer Beauty

Giorgio Armani's new Lasting Silk UV Foundation SPF 20 is a great alternative to thick TV or photography makeup (ideal for bridal pics!). The pump dispenser bottle is so well made. Just squirt out one nickel-sized dollop into your palm and spread across your face. The feel is light and smooth, and is an all-purpose formula. You get sunscreen and medium coverage for both special days or for everyday wear. This is a new water-based formula that lasts 14-hours.

armani_lasting_silk.jpg

The Crema Nera Eye Compact has the Obsidian Mineral Complex (key ingredients silicium, sodium, iron and potassium) that is crucial to cell regeneration. The concentrated cream absorbs so nicely into the delicate eye area. I didn't even have to dab at it too much before it disappeared into the skin. Fine lines are plumped up, and you get an instant radiant glow. I even use it on my lips to freshen up before meetings. It also has a built-in mirror that swings out for on-the-go touch ups! The matching Crema Nera Obsidian Mineral Restoring Serum is used for fighting deep wrinkles and severely dry skin. I like the clean scent - not too heavily perfumed. The length and depth of wrinkles are reduced while providing plenty of nourishing moisture.

For that golden goddess look, the Sienna Minerals Bronzing Palette evokes vivid earth shades (deep reddish brown, golden flecks, and choco brown) of the sienna landscape. The ultra smooth Microfil texture completes this sunny tapestry of summer colors. This can be used as either an all-over bronzing blush or a sculpting highlighter.

Lorac Couture Shine Liquid Lipstick

Here's another spring color product to brighten that pout. Lorac's new Couture Shine Liquid Lipstick is a non-sticky lip color collection that has the best of both lippie and gloss worlds.

Available in 7 sheer and opaque shades, this paraben free formula promises soft lips and long-lasting lip color. Light-reflecting Mother of Pearl helps lips stay smooth, while hyaluronic acid helps hydrate and fill in fine lines.

LORAC_SHEER%20LUXE.jpg

For me, the shade Sheer Luxe was already highly pigmented, so dab on a bit and see how it goes for you. It's a really nice buildable brick red. The Glam is a great iridescent coral tone, sure to be great for many skin tones.

Lutz & Patmos Jane Birkin Collection

SF weather can be super cold and windy even in the Spring and Summer seasons, so imagine my delight to come upon the new Lutz & Patmos Spring 2009 collection. Teaming up with style icon and guest designer Jane Birkin, they created two ultra soft and flattering basic tops (made with 100% organic Scottish cashmere).

jane_birkin.jpg
Jane Birkin for Lutz & Patmos - wearing her V-Neck sweater and Tank.

Layer the Jane Birkin Tank with the V-Neck sweater for that casual, sexy look. The deep V-Neck is raw edged with a slouchy fit and 3/4 sleeves, while the tank scoopneck has a delicate hand crochet finish at the neckline and armhole. Both styles come in black, grey heather, and mocha heather. The company will also continue collaborating with Birkin for Fall 2009.

lutzpatmos_birkin_GREY.jpg

I also want the Organic Flounced Dress - so elegant! It looks deceptively simple but I know it will be very flattering for most body types. It's the perfect black dress with a green agenda.

Recchiuti Easter Chocolate

Ah, springtime...even if you're not religious it's time for you to indulge in Easter treats. Recchiuti Confections has some awesome stuff this season (classic and new) so do treat yourselves to some high octane chocolate goodness.

Those who've tried the Peanut Butter Pucks will be thrilled to see the Peanut Butter Easter Egg incarnation of this to-die-for confection. Dark milk chocolate Easter Egg-shaped shell halves are filled with creamy organic peanut butter, fleur de sel, and chocolate. The tiny bits of salt jumped out ever so slightly, making the peanut butter pop nicely. YUM. These disappeared so fast...and it's not even Easter yet. Oops.

peanutbutter_eggs_recchiuti.jpg

If you're lucky enough to be in the SF Bay Area, I'm begging you to try their new Pastel Hazelnuts. They are so addictive it's insane. Perfectly roasted hazelnuts are panned in burnt caramel, then surrounded by milk chocolate and wrapped in a colorful pastel candy shell. The crunchy exterior texture melded so well with the rich nuts and chocolate. It's not available online so better run down to their store before they sell out!

Williams-Sonoma Easter

I'm SO happy it's officially Spring season! Easter is about 3 weeks away, and I'm itchin' to bake up a batch of bunny-shaped cookies and other treats. I'm looking at these fun toys from Williams-Sonoma...I want them so I can have a proper girly tea afternoon with my friends.

Aren't these Springtime Nest Bell Jars darling? I want them all. So country chic.

WS_spring_nest_belljars.jpg

I'm in such a cupcake baking mood lately. I might just have to buy this Daisy Crown Cupcake Pan to make some. At this rate I might be stuck in the kitchen all day...not that I'm complaining.

    Last Minute Valentine Gifts

To all my V-day procrastinators - the big day is coming up this weekend, so here's some last-minute Valentine ideas...

MarieBelle has gorgeous Valentine boxes that come in 36, 25, 16, 9 pieces of their signature truffles with cute retro graphic designs. Some truffles I liked were the Passionfruit, Spices, Gianduja, and Cardamom flavors. The deep red glamorous snakeskin-textured box is so sturdy you can reuse it as a jewelry or crafting box. Another good choice is their yummy Tropical Fruit Caramels assortment. Made from a family recipe, the handmade confections are packaged with vintage images and hand-decorated with glittery accents. Flavors include: Condensed Milk, Kiwi, Piña Colada, Guava, Strawberry, and Mango.

Guilt-free flowers: Whole Foods is offering Whole Trade Roses from Ecuador for $19.99 per dozen. Producers of these flowers ensure fair wages, safe work conditions, and environmentally friendly business practices. Available at all Whole Foods Market locations in Northern California and Reno.
    Wholefoods_fairTrade_roses.jpg

For the boys, Burberry's recently launched The Beat men's fragrance is a good option. It's quite the woody cologne (notes of leatherwood, vetiver bourbon, cedrat, black pepper, and violet leaves). It's a very strong masculine scent, different from typical men's colognes. I like it enough to wear it myself.
    the_beat_men%27s_burberry.jpg

For those with no budget whatsoever, do it the old-school way. Letterpress designer Sarah Drake has a free printable black and white Valentine card graphic for super last-minute greetings. Just print some out and use some colored pencils to personalize! Get it at:www.sarahdrakedesign.com/shop/index.php?act=viewShop&productId=34

    Recchiuti Valentine Treats

Love it or hate it, we all like to have some gourmet chocolate on Valentine's Day. Recchiuti Confections has lots of gift ideas in all budget ranges, such as the Extra-Bitter Chocolate Sundae Kit. It includes one jar of the popular Extra-bitter Chocolate Sauce, along with three awesome Fudge Brownies. It's pretty hard to resist this package. I was planning to make a sundae, but ended up noshing on the decadent brownies instead. Oops. Then I just spooned the chocolate sauce straight from the jar. I so need to jog.

Available only once a year, the classic Champagne Truffles are always a fave. With the timeless combo of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs bubbly and intense dark chocolate, it's the most sophisticated way to say 'I love you.' These truffles have the best champagne flavor, not to mention the smoothest that I've had in a long time.

    recchiuti_champagne.jpg

If you're looking to go all out, the Platinum Collection will do the trick. With 88 pieces of gourmet goodness, it's also 88 ways to show him or her how much you adore them. Some great flavors include: Honeycomb Malt, Cardamom Nougat, Cassis Strata, Burnt Caramel, Lavender Vanilla, Spring Jasmine Tea, Star Anise & Pink Peppercorn, Ginger Heart, Sesame Nougat, Rose Caramel, Bergamot Tea, and Piedmont Hazelnut.

    Vosges for V-day

You never need an excuse to indulge in Vosges Haut Chocolat, but for the Valentine gifting folks out there, there's the new Organic Exotic Candy Bar Library to try. The box includes a Dominica Noir (74% -one of the darkest I've tried from them), a Dominica Lait (using Criollo beans!), an Enchanted Mushroom & one Peanut Butter Bonbon Bar.

I love the peanut butter bar...the mushroom bar is made with Reishi mushrooms, a superfood used in Chinese medicine. I feel healthier already, hehe. I also liked the salty-sweet crunch of the milk Habana bar (w/Ecuadorian plantain chips). It will be a crucial tool for that certain time of the month, that's for sure.

    vosges_Mushroom.jpg

For a slightly fancier gift idea, the Exotic Truffle Collection Heart Box is a good one. It contains their signature truffle collection, which will make anyone happy.

Giorgio Armani Spring 09 Pink Light

Giorgio Armani Spring 2009 Pink Light collection has a limited edition eye shadow palette that will create luminous and fresh eyes. Embossed with Mr. Armani’s signature, the palette includes a shimmering silver, light lilac, light rose, and light beige for that rosy look.

    armani_Spring_2009.jpg

The new Light Master Make-up Primer does wonders for highlighting the skin. Optical effects are created from Micro-fil™ pearl, which changes skin tone (depending on light reflection). This will illuminate and shape cheekbones and contours of the face while toning down uneven zones. It's very light (like their face fabrics) and I sure glowed like a radiant flower after a light application. You don't need a lot at all, just a light pump will do. If you already have great skin, you might not need foundation.

    armani_pink_eyeshadow.jpg

The collection also includes a Pink Light Powder, a rose shimmering loose powder for a soft pink veil of color. Two new compacts of the Blending Blush Duo (n°3 and n°4) come in coral/mocha or rosewood/raspberry. They've also introduced the new Sheer and Shine lipstick in the Shine 47 – nude taupe, Shine 49 - fig, and Sheer 33, a rose coral.

    NARS Spring 2009

Inspired by 1970’s pastels, pinks, and berry shades, NARS has a bold eyeshadow for their Spring '09 collection. The Grenadines shade, a matte garnet, is worn by Guinevere van Seenus for their ad campaign.

    NARS_Spring_2009.jpg

To get her look: NARS makeup artist Ayako layered Hungry Heart Blush Duo, swept across the apple of cheeks, over the Multiple in Orgasm, and used a combination of shadows for the eye— Single Eyeshadow in Grenadines, over the entire lid and up to the inner corner of the brow then smudged under the lower lash line, and Single Eyeshadow in Egea in the crease. Finally she filled in her pout with Lipstick in Shrinagar, and dabbed some Lip Gloss in Sweet Revenge to the middle of the lip for added shine.

    NARS_spring09.jpg

They've also launched two new must-haves - the Blush Duo and Duo Concealer. The blush compact has a highlighting and one sculpting shade (Hungry Heart - Iridescent gold ivory & pink sand). The crease-resistant concealer duo comes in Custard/Ginger (for light to medium complexions) and Praline/Toffee (for medium to dark).

Here's a face chart by lead artist Ayako for the new colors:

    Face:
    • Apply NARS Firming Foundation to entire face
    • With NARS Flat Concealer Brush apply NARS Concealer to cover any imperfections
    • Apply the peachy pink Orgasm side of NARS Multiple Duo in Orgasm/South Beach to apple of cheek and blend into foundation with fingers
    • Apply NARS Loose Powder with NARS Loose Powder Brush to set foundation
    • Over The Multiple Duo, blend both sides of NARS Blush Duo in Hungry Heart and sweep across apple of cheek

    NARS_facecharts_spr09.jpg

    Eyes:
    • Apply NARS The Multiple Duo in Orgasm/South Beach (peachy pink Orgasm side) over entire eyelid
    • Apply NARS Single Eyeshadow in Grenadines with NARS Large Domed Eye Brush over entire lid, blending up to inner corner of brow, and under lower lash line
    • Smudge Grenadines with NARS Smudge Brush in between lashes to deepen color
    • With NARS Angled Eye Shader, apply NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Egea (smoky lilac side) into crease
    • Coat top and bottom lashes with NARS Mascara in Black Orchid

    Lips:
    • Apply NARS Lipliner Pencil in Amazon
    • Fill entire lip with NARS Lipstick in Shrinagar
    • Add NARS Lip Gloss in Sweet Revenge to middle of lip for subtle shine

    Guerlain Exotic Paradise Spring 2009

Guerlain's Spring 2009 Exotic Paradise is filled with lush, exotic color. Welcoming the triumph of springtime bliss, the palette is lively and charming. It is nice to see this visage of renewal.

    guerlain_spring09.jpg

The Ombre Eclat Four Shade Eyeshadow compact has a lovely etching of delicate plants and a slender bird of paradise. Opening it will reveal a burst of joyful color in four shades: pink, orange, green, and brown. The KissKiss Gloss in Pomme du Desir #806 is a gorgeous lime green sparkler. Use it alone or with a neutral lip pencil to bring out your lip shape. With luck, you might be able to pull of Angelina Jolie lips!

    guerlain_paradise09.jpg

The Ombre Eclat single eye shadows are packaged in a luxurious compact. With 3.6 grams of product, this is the largest single-eyeshadow on the market. It comes in 10 shades with velvet, sparkly, and pearly textures. I really like the 181 L’Instant Emeraude, a deep forest green. It's perfect for a subtle smoky lid.

    Freedom of Choice Spring 2009

Here's an insider peek at the Spring/Summer '09 Freedom of Choice denim collection. The jeans are bright and funky with distressed markings and a colorful palette. Here are some styles to look for:

The Precious wide leg style can be either casual or classy, depending on how you pull it off. Throw on a thin tank for a coffee rendez-vous, or a slinky sequin number for a nighttime look.

We're also very lucky to have FOC founder Nathan Menashe chat with us in this mini fashion interview:

    1. What are your hot denim style predictions for S/S 2009?
Nathan: Bold treatments such as dramatic colors, distressing, and prints. In terms of fit, flared legs make a comeback and the boyfriend jean are to set the tone for a more laid back look. Skinny jeans will still be a wardrobe staple.

    2. Any plans to expand your organic jean collection?
NM: We are going to continue producing organic styles since the demand has been growing each season. The variety of organic styles is going to be broader within the line.

    spring09%20FOC.jpg
    Sandra flare in Lavish treatment

    3. Any new fabric technology you're working on?
NM: We're always working on new treatments and fabric content. Our essential goal is to treat our fabrics and bring it to its softest point where it's the most comfortable pair of jeans a woman has tried on.

    4. Your favorite jean style out of your entire line?
NM: We love all our styles - each jean has a different personality that can be worn in different occasions. We put love into each one.

    121-087%20babeth_skinny_prince.jpg
Babeth skinny jeans in Prince wash

    5. As women come in so many shapes and sizes, what should we look for to guarantee a good fitting jean? How does one look for the right cut?
NM: A great slimming bootcut like our Earth Friendly jean guarantees a flattering fit to every body type. Its fit is universal so it suits the widest range of shapes. The bootcut has a fine balance in its design so that it can be worn with any outfit, from high heels to sneakers.

    Artisanal Cocktails

Scott Beattie's Artisanal Cocktails has many beautiful cocktail recipes for holiday entertaining. Inspired by the famous drinks from the Bar at Cyrus, Beattie takes mixology to the ultimate gourmet level. Using local and organic ingredients, he created exotic libations with international accents. Try your hand at making the Hot Indian Date, Gin Kimchi, or the Grapes of Roth.

    Artisanal_Cocktails_cover.jpg

    Meyer Beautiful (My, You’re Beautiful)

    Makes 1 cocktail

This is a tart cocktail that explores the complex flavors of Meyer lemons and elderflowers. Elderflowers have a lovely lychee aroma and flavor that marries well with the citrus-floral tones of Meyer lemons. Before you taste your first sip, the sugar, black salt, and lemon zest rim wake up your mouth. Late season Meyers can be rather sweet, so when they lack acid I substitute juice from regular Eureka lemons for half of the lemon juice.

    artisanal_cocktails.jpg

Dried zest of 1 large or 2 small Meyer lemons, for rim
    5 tablespoons sugar, for rim
1 tablespoon black sea salt, for rim (optional)
    1/2 Meyer lemon, for rim
    1 egg white
1 ounce Charbay Meyer lemon vodka
    1 ounce vodka
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed Meyer lemon juice
    1/2 ounce D’arbo elderflower syrup
Baked Candied Meyer Lemon Peels, for garnish
    Edible flowers, for garnish (optional)

Place a V-shaped glass in the freezer to chill. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Follow the recipe on page 19 to make Candied Meyer Lemon Peels. Shake off any excess syrup and slice the peels into thin strips. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat and arrange the strips so they don’t touch. Bake for 5 minutes, remove from the oven, and let cool to room temperature. If they aren’t hard and devoid of moisture when cool, bake for 2 minutes more.

Combine the zest, sugar, and salt on a small plate. Rub the Meyer lemon half around the rim of the chilled glass and shake off any excess juice. Dip the glass into the sugar-zest mixture to coat the rim (see page 38).

Place the egg white in a mixing glass (see page 30), seal it up tight with a firm tap, and shake vigorously for 10 seconds, until white and frothy. Add the vodkas, juice, syrup, and enough ice to fill the glass. Cover and shake vigorously for another 10 seconds. Strain into the sugar-rimmed glass. After about 20 seconds, a nice head will form on top of the drink. Garnish with the candied zest, edible flowers, or both to serve.

    Guerlain Holiday Beauty 2008

Inspired by the delicate shades of a rare butterfly's wing, the Guerlain holiday 2008 colors has the signature feminine sparkle found in the entire brand.
    guerlain_holiday_08.jpeg

The Ombre Éclat 4 Shades Mysterious Butterfly eyeshadow compact contains four vibrant shades of white, mauve, soft pink and violet. It's a light and pretty look, amidst the dramatic dark colors that are usually popular in this season.

There are two lip gloss shades for the collection. The KissKiss Gloss in 802 Charming Butterfly is a candy pink that is flirty and fun. I like the 803 Intriguing Butterfly, a sexy shimmery violet.

    Holiday Treats from Recchiuti Confections

Recchiuti Confections has all the chocolate goodies you will need for holiday gifts and entertaining. The Burnt Caramel Almonds are pretty lethal - you can inhale in minutes if you're not careful. Great as a stocking stuffer for the foodie in your life, these organic almonds are first drenched in dark chocolate (with a slight hint of burnt caramel), then dusted in a thick layer of cocoa. Sugary heaven on my happy taste buds...
    recchiuti_Almonds.jpg

I normally don't like peanut butter flavored chocolates, but the Peanut Butter Pucks are so good I nearly keeled over in bliss. I couldn't just eat one piece. Organic peanut butter, chocolate, and fleur de sel come together to create a sumptuous indulgence. It's a smart idea to get a box for your loved ones and a separate one for yourself. Yes, they're that good.
    recchiuti_peanut_pucks.jpg

For the ultimate chocolate pleasure, the Platinum Collection (88 pieces!) will wow everyone. It's best to savor each one slowly, but it's quite possible to devour the entire box at a group soiree. It features some of Recchiuti's most popular flavors (Burnt Caramel, Fleur de Sel Caramel, Cardamom Nougat, Cassis Strata, Ecuador Varietal, Lavender Vanilla, Lemon Verbena, Bergamot Tea, etc.). The Syrian Alep (Aleppo) Soap is so darn pretty! Made from an ancient recipe of olive and bay laurel oil, it's the oldest soap formation found in history. The intricate carvings on these make them almost too beautiful to use...they're great as guest bath soaps. Very gentle for the skin.

    NARS Holiday 2008

NARS has some sparkly goodies for holiday colors. The Silent Night (metallic gold) and Night Life (metallic silver) single eye shadows will make things really festive.

    nars%20holiday%20face08.jpg

Their beautiful shimmering particles remind me of Night Snow and Night Rider from last year's holiday collection. I can't wait to try these at the next holiday soirée. They totally turn your eyes into starry jewels.

    holiday08%20nars%20silent%20night.jpg

    holiday08_nars.jpg

For purple lovers, the bold Jolie Poupee eye shadow duo is a bright violet and a deep pearly purple. Cult fans of the Orgasm blush will love the Super Orgasm. It is a darker pigment with a golden iridescent finish. It's very buildable and has a better color payoff over the original, in my humble opinion.

    super%20orgasm.jpg

To let the eyes shine, the lips are more neutral. The Canaille lipstick is a shimmery mahogany, and the super glossy All Night Long lip gloss is a nice sheer berry. To top it all off, the Orgasm nail polish is a feminine peachy pink with a gold shimmer.

    Armani Beauty Fall 2008

Giorgio Armani Beauty has some awesome fall items, and here are a few highlights:

    lip%20wax%20armani.jpg

For a casual pout, the Lip Wax is a modern satiny blush for lips. A combination of a gloss and a lipstick, this super smooth and silky wax is so light I can hardly feel it. Just dab it on and off you go. No need for lip liner, but feel free to add some gloss to make it pop. The beauty of this line is that you can mix and layer to your liking. I like shades 3 (Sienna) and 4 (Raspberry).

    LIP_WAX.jpg

From the Python Collection, the Blending Blush Duo palettes have a creamy texture to create a soft and subtle highlighting.

    armani%20blush%20duo.jpg

The Maestro Eye Shadow Quads are inspired by the rich colors of the Italian coast. These range from matte greys and navy to sumptuous lilac and gold. The new formula contains light Micro-fil™ silk so it literally melts into the skin for layering ease and comfort. Pigments are intensified and it has improved crease-proof adherence. The Desert palette # 5 features a pretty rose, earth brown, burnt beige, and pale sand; the Mineral # 6 has amethyst, grey obsidian, rose quartz, and beige opal.

    armani%20maestro%20eye%20quad.jpg

With cooler weather upon us, the Crema Nera cream is a wonderful option for dry skin. The obsidian mineral (extracted from the petrified lava on Pantelleria, Italy) formula has cell regenerating properties to revitalize the skin's natural radiance. It's a bit rich, so use a tiny bit and build up if you need more.

    armani%20crema%20nera.jpg

Finally, if you haven't tried the fantastic Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup, you're totally missing out. The nine shades are more like tinted moisturizers, and can be combined together to customize your look. It's like you're not wearing any makeup - it literally blends into the skin. I don't wear much foundation so this is a nice basic look for me to polish up; no caked up texture here!

Whether you want a natural lip or a sexy red pout, the look is entirely up to you. The soft powder texture glides on nicely and stays put.

The Pocket Beauty Case from Givenchy's Fall 2008 collection is a must have. Used for the lips and cheeks, the very sheer color is great for that delicate flush whenever you need it. It can be built upon as a day to evening look, depending on how much you apply. A Harvest of Pumpkins and Squash

Fall is definitely creeping up, and reading A Harvest of Pumpkins and Squash has me in the mood for comfort food. Covering summer and winter squash, this lovely book contains 40 cool recipes by Lou Seibert Pappas, and you can make any of the dishes for all seasons and occasions.

Maren Caruso's photographs had me drooling. Try the Delicata Squash Rings, or the Sugar Pumpkin-White Cheddar Cheese Souffle. The Five-Spice Pumpkin-Ginger Cake got me all curious. My baking sensors are all fired up.

    harvest%20of%20pumpkin%20squash.jpg

Not just for the holidays, pumpkin pies should be made year-round. I can eat it all the time. So here's a fun recipe for y'all to check out:

Pumpkin-Maple Pecan Pie with Cognac Whipped Cream

    Flaky Pastry Dough:

    1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) plus 1 tablespoon cold butter, diced
    1/4 cup ice water
    3 eggs
1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    1/3 cup pure maple syrup
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    1 3/4 cups pumpkin purée
    1 1/2 cups half-and-half or whole milk

    Caramelized Pecans:

    1 tablespoon butter
    1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger or cinnamon
    1 tablespoon water
    1 cup pecans

    pumpkin%20pie.jpg

    Cognac Whipped Cream:

    1 cup heavy (whipping) cream
    2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
    2 tablespoons cognac or rum

To make the Flaky Pastry Dough, in a food processor, combine the flour and salt and pulse briefly to mix. Scatter the butter over the top and pulse just until the mixture forms coarse crumbs about the size of peas. Drizzle the ice water over the flour mixture and pulse just until the dough starts to come together. Remove from bowl and pat into a disk. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 3 days.

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Place the dough disk on a lightly floured work surface and roll out into a 12-inch round. Fold the dough in half and transfer to a 9-inch pie pan. Unfold and line the pan bottom and sides. Fold the overhang under itself and pinch to create an edge. Prick the dough a few times and place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Transfer to the oven and bake just until lightly golden, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.

In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until blended. Add the brown sugar, maple syrup, salt, cinnamon, allspice, and ginger and whisk to mix well. Beat in the pumpkin and half-and-half until smooth. Pour into the partially baked pastry shell.

Reduce the temperature to 350°F. Bake until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown, 35 to 40 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool slightly.

Meanwhile, prepare the Caramelized Pecans: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a heavy medium saucepan, combine the honey, sugar, ginger, and water and stir to blend. Bring to a boil over medium heat, add the nuts, and boil for 2 minutes, stirring. Turn out onto the prepared baking sheet and spread in a single layer. Bake until golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool. Sprinkle over the baked pie in a wreath pattern or at random.

To make the whipped cream: In a medium bowl, using an electric mixer on medium-high speed, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Beat in the confectioners’ sugar and cognac just until combined.

To serve, cut the warm pie into wedges and top with the whipped cream.
Makes one 9-inch pie; serves 8.

    NARS Fall 2008

Inspired by this season's fashion runways, the NARS Fall 2008 collection is a beautiful array of vibrant neutrals. Designed to reflect fashion's bold hues and textures, warm metallics and spicy tones light up the visage.

    nars%20fall08.jpg

The ever-popular Dolce Vita is featured in its latest reincarnation - the powder blush is a bright dusty rose. A little dusting was plenty for me to impart a natural glow, but for darker tones or for a more dramatic flair you can ramp up the application.

    dolce%20blush.jpg

Eyes colors are rather dramatic, which are perfect for the vampy look. The Fez eyeshadow is a velvety cocoa, which looks very natural by itself. The duo Isolde (warm frosted ginger & shimmery bronze copper) is a good one if you don't have enough neutrals in your makeup collection. Great for lots of blending. Cordura is another duo that is a solid hit, with a shimmering rich brown and a golden sooty dark brown - this makes a good smoky eye.

    nars%20duo.jpg

Lip colors are decidedly soft and sheer. The Beautiful Liar lipstick is a nice spiced coral and the Senorita is a really light shimmery cherry blossom. The Female Trouble lip gloss is a pretty lilac mauve.

    Giorgio Armani Bronze Mania 2008

Armani's Bronze Mania 2008 Ochra collection is a gorgeous homage to the sunny island of Pantelleria. One of the highlights is the Ochra Mediterranean Palette, a beautiful eye shadow and bronzer palette that is perfect for a beach getaway or a night on the yacht. The eye shadows quartet feature warm shimmery gold and earthy brown shades, while the bronzer is super sheer and natural.

    armani%20bronze_mania%202008.jpg

For the sun goddesses out there, the Bronze Mania Skin Tints are a long-lasting and natural way to build up color. Water soluble and sheer, you can blend two shades together, or wear them alone. The shades range from a subtle barely there look to a deep Mediterranean tan.

    armani%20ochre%20palette.jpg

I really dug the sparkly Lip Shimmer Bronze glosses. the pretty shades are quite sexy - my favorites are #52, a pearly brown ochre, and #53, a muted brown ochre.

    Guerlain Meteorites Collection Perles

Despite the sweltering heat, you can still get that elegant glow with Guerlain's Summer 2008 Meteorites Collection Perles. It's all about perfecting that sublime radiance this season!

The Météorites Perles Light Diffusing Perfecting Primer is great for transforming the skin into a radiant canvas. The magical “light” expertise of these pearls help even out imperfections, producing a healthy and natural look. The pearls also contain absorbing powders to neutralize excess sebum. Smoothing out fine lines, the texture is matte and lovely.

    guerlain%2008%20summer.jpg

The Météorites Poudre de Perles Illuminating Perfecting Pressed Powder is a portable way to get the pearly magic. Sparkling multicoloured micro particles are encapsulated within the pearls, forming a high-tech powder that accentuates and conceals. Pores are also minimized. For those with red blotchy skin, Mythic Parfait is great for evening out the skin tone. This is a great product for light summer coverage.

    guerlain%20Summer08.jpg

The Kisskiss Pearl Gloss collection features an array of gorgeous shades. Cutting-edge technology enables the microscopic pearls to magnify the visual impact of pigments and the diffusion of light. I love the Amethyst Pearl and Champagne Pearl shades - the light, non-sticky feel is great.

    The Perfect Scoop

It's so easy to make ice cream these days, so there is no reason why you should stick to plain ol' vanilla. David Lebovitz's The Perfect Scoop has all the gourmet ideas you will need for the ultimate ice cream treat. There is a wonderful chapter on mastering the techniques, and there are sections devoted to sorbets and granitas. Try the divine Crème Fraîche Ice Cream recipe with the Salted Butter Caramel Sauce. If that is too much decadence, the elegant Champagne‐Cassis Granita will be the perfect refresher after a relaxing summer meal.

    Perfect%20Scoop.jpg

Toasted Almond and Candied Cherry Ice Cream

Makes about 11/2 quarts (11/2 liters)

Crack open a cherry or apricot pit and you'll discover a soft kernel inside with the pronounced scent of bitter almonds. I took a cue from whatever higher power designed these two flavors together and paired cherries with almonds in one heavenly ice cream. Adding anything chocolate makes this ice cream amazingly good.

Be sure to drain the cherries in a strainer very well before folding them into the ice cream. They should be dry and sticky before you chop them up and mix them in.

1 cup (250 ml) whole milk
    3/4 cup (150 g) sugar
    Pinch of salt
2 cups (500 ml) heavy cream
2 cups (270 g) whole almonds, toasted (see page 13) and coarsely chopped
    5 large egg yolks
    1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup (200 g) well-drained Sour Cherries in Syrup (page 185) or Candied Cherries (page 215), coarsely chopped

    Toasted%20Almond%20Cherry.jpg

Warm the milk, sugar, salt, and 1 cup (250 ml) of the cream in a medium saucepan. Finely chop 1 cup (135 g) of the almonds and add them to the warm milk. Cover, remove from the heat, and let steep at room temperature for 1 hour.

Strain the almond-infused milk into a separate medium saucepan. Press with a spatula or squeeze with your hands to extract as much flavor from the almonds as possible. Discard the almonds.

Rewarm the almond-infused milk. Pour the remaining 1 cup (250 ml) cream into a large bowl and set a mesh strainer on top. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks. Slowly pour the warm mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly, then scrape the warmed egg yolks back into the saucepan.

Stir the mixture constantly over medium heat with a heatproof spatula, scraping the bottom as you stir, until the mixture thickens and coats the spatula. Pour the custard through the strainer and stir it into the cream. Stir in the almond extract and stir until cool over an ice bath.

Chill the mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator, then freeze it in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. During the last few minutes of churning, add the remaining 1 cup (135 g) chopped almonds. When you remove the ice cream from the machine, fold in the chopped cherries.

Perfect Pairings: Try layering this ice cream with Fudge Ripple (page 210) for Almond, Cherry, and Chocolate Ice Cream (pictured opposite), or add Dark Chocolate Truffles (page 211) or Stracciatella (page 210) instead.

    Spring Delights from Vosges

Talk about a breathtaking collection of Spring gifts from Vosges! Just in time to shower Mom with your adoration, here are some last-minute gift ideas to make her smile:

The Green Collection is a gorgeous celebration of life and is inspired by the spices, teas, fruits and flowers indigenous to Asia. The Ellateria truffle is a beautiful Indian green cardamom, while the Kaffir (Thai kaffir lime) is a nice interpretation of this exotic flavor. The Kayoko (Japanese macha green tea) goes very well with the white chocolate. I just loved the aromatic and earthy Buddha's Leaf (Malaysian pandan leaves).

    truffle-buddhas-leaf-LB.jpg

For more of nature's bounty, the pretty Les Fleurs du Chocolat Collection will send you into a blissful dream of organic fruits and flowers. This limited edition collection includes Siam Citron (jasmine tea , lemongrass, coconut), Mirabelle Orange (mirabelle plums, orange flower water), Rose Vert (tarragon + rose water), and Platanos y Orchidus (orchid vanilla + caramelized bananas + Jamaican rum).

    vosge%20fleur.jpg

Lastly, the pièce de résistance...go splurge on the Red Velvet Party Cake. The sweet chocolate red velvet cake is layered with cream cheese & white chocolate ganache (oh my!) and organic New Mexican pecans. This Southern darlin' will thrill everyone, and it's encased in a flower embellished white chocolate shell. It's almost too darn cute to eat!

    Green Cocktail - Country Thyme

In celebrating Earth Day this week, here's a yummy 'green' cocktail from Elixir of San Francisco. This refreshing and pretty drink is really versatile (you can use whatever fruit is in season) and fun to make.

    Country Thyme

1 ½ oz. Square One Organic Vodka

10-15 Fresh organic blueberries (can also be made with other fresh berries like black berries or huckleberries but may need more sweetener. Use whatever is in season and fresh)

1/2 of an organic lemon, in pieces

    ¼ oz. organic agave nectar

    Country%20Thyme.jpg

Place blueberries and lemon pieces in a mixing cup and muddle to juice both. Add agave nectar and vodka, and then top with ice. Shake vigorously for 10-20 seconds. Place one small sprig of Thyme in the palm of your hand and slap it to release the oils. Twist it and place at the bottom of a 10 oz glass (highball or old fashioned bucket) and fill with ice. Strain the drink over the ice. Take a nice big, pretty sprig of Thyme and slap it again before sticking it into the drink as a garnish.

    Easter Treats From Williams-Sonoma

Take advantage of the great Easter sale at Williams-Sonoma! Check out the darling Mini Iced Easter Sugar Cookies - once you munch on one, you can't stop! These tiny buttery cookies are baked in cute Easter shapes (bunny, egg, carrot, flower). They're so adorable that you don't want to eat them, but I still managed to attack a few. Prepared by a small family-owned Canadian bakery, these are made with real butter, fresh eggs, and are hand decorated with royal icing.

    mini%20iced.jpg

For a spectacular Spring centerpiece, the Moss & Strawflower Easter Basket with Chocolate Carrots will spark conversation at the table. The wire and sphagnum moss basket comes filled with six Guittard milk chocolate carrots wrapped in orange-and-green foil. The basket’s rim is also interwoven with marjoram and lavender stems and accented with sunny yellow strawflowers.

    easter%20basket.jpg

If you want to bake your own Easter goodies, the Williams-Sonoma Nonstick Goldtouch™ Insulated Cookie Sheet totally rocks. This baking sheet boasts a durable nonstick Goldtouch™ coating to resist scratches and peeling, while the insulated constriction ensures even browning. The two tin-free steel layers increases heat circulation, so cookies bake evenly throughout and emerge with a light golden crust. It won't rust or warp either. What a wonder baking tool.

    Bunny Love from Vosges Chocolate

You don't need to host an elaborate Easter brunch to enjoy the fine confections from Vosges Haut Chocolat. The adorable Chocolate Easter Bunnies will make you smile - choose from the new Amalfi Bunny (lemon zest & pink peppercorn), or take home the Barcelona Bunny (smoked almonds & sea salt).

    08.bunny-amalfi.jpg

I didn't believe that pigs could fly...until now. The new Flying Chocolate Pig will make your taste buds sing. If you love the Mo's Bacon Bar like I do, you will appreciate this cute arrival. The solid chocolate pig combines applewood smoked bacon (yum), Alder wood smoked salt and deep milk chocolate (double yum). That's my definition of heaven.

    pig_bacon02.jpg

If that's not decadent enough for ya, then go for Bapchi's Caramel Toffee. One of their top-sellers, the salty-sweet combo is a classic fave. I bet you can inhale the entire box in one sitting. The extremely addictive and oh-so-buttery toffee is sprinkled with pink Himalayan salt, then coated with deep milk chocolate. A coating of roasted organic walnuts and pecans provide the extra satisfying crunch.

    Toffee%20bapchi.jpg

The Exotic Caramel collection is becoming another favorite of mine. Not just your average caramel, these come in intriguing blends of Aboriginal anise myrtle, bee pollen, Tupelo honey, and blood orange juice. Your senses will be delighted with the whimsical flavors, all bathed in a luxurious layer of butter, sugar, cream, and chocolate.

NARS Spring 2008 - Shanghai Lily

Evoking seductive images of the 1930s silent screen temptresses, the NARS Spring 2008 Shanghai Lily collection is a pearly melange of shimmery neutrals, along with bright pops of lip color.

    nars%2008.jpg

The Alhambra duo eyeshadow is a gorgeous metallic rose with a golden champagne. I love the golden champagne (the one on the right), it makes my eyes glow like a film siren. You can pair this with the Abyssinia shadow as a highlighter, blending it up to the brow bone.

    alhambra.jpg

The lip collection is an absolute hit in my book. The Success lipstick, a warm sienna shade, goes very well with the sparkling pink Greek Holiday lip gloss. For the vixens, the true red shade of Manhunt (aptly named) will draw all the boys to ya.

    manhunt.jpg

I also like the dusty rose of the Dolce Vitalip gloss, a popular lip shade reformulated as a gloss. The great thing about the NARS lip colors is that you can blend to your heart's content.

    dolce_vita_gloss.jpg

Fans of the best-selling Orgasm blush will adore the new Orgasm Multiple. Now you can apply this flattering peachy pink shimmer to the eyes, cheeks or lips. It's just great as an overall face highlighter. For those lazy days where you don't want to slap on any makeup, this multiple will take care of it in 3 minutes.

    Lancôme L.U.C.I. Spring 2008 Color

Lancôme's spring look is based on the new illuminating L.U.C.I. collection (stands for Luminous Colorless Color Intelligence) by artistic director and celeb makeup artist Gucci Westman. Flirty and sophisticated, their special photonic technology showcases the iridescent color that is found on a butterfly’s wing. This optical illusion produces multiple hues of interchangeable colors based on lighting angles. The photonic formula looks clear or white, but upon application it creates a spectacular array of colors, reflecting shades of pink, aqua, greens, and blues. Soon you'll be preening like a real butterfly!

    LUCI_l.jpg

A few key products I like - the L.U.C.I EYES Light Color in Motion Eye Shadow Duo is a pretty shell-shaped compact that carries a beautiful bronze color and a photonic shade. You can blend the photonic shadow over the bronze color to create a unique third shade or use it by itself. It goes on very smoothly, so custom blending is easy and effortless.

Your lips will get that gorgeous pearly lacquer with the COLOR FEVER GLOSS. Use the photonic gloss as a topcoat over lipstick or lip pencil, or layer it with the other new shades to achieve glittering, intense colors (available in Sunray (photonic shade), Seashell and Rainbow).

    LUCI%202.jpeg

To get an overall luminescent glow, apply the PHOTONIC Illuminating Powder Brush to your cheeks and forehead. It's just like applying a bronzer for a sculpting effect.

    The Christmas Cookie Deck

Another great stocking stuffer, Lou Seibert Pappas' The Christmas Cookie Deck is a great way to celebrate the winter holidays with friends and family. Handy and convenient, it includes 50 easy-to-follow recipe cards that include many classic holiday favorites (Gingerbread, Frosty Snowmen, Lebkuchen, Florentines). The Persimmon-Date Cookies and Embossed Macadamia Stars are also tempting recipes to use for gift bags and party platters. Try the Springerle recipe below - your warm kitchen will be filled with a festive scent of spices...

    xmas%20cookie%20deck.jpg

    Springerle

This centuries-old German cookie is stamped with a carved wooden mold to create an embossed design.

    2 eggs
    2 cups powdered sugar
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
    1 tsp. baking powder
    Dash salt
    Aniseed for coating
    Baking sheet

    springerle.jpg

Using an electric mixer with a whisk beater, beat eggs in a bowl at high speed until fluffy. Add sugar and beat until very thick, about 5 to 10 minutes. In another bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg mixture and beat well. Place in plastic wrap and chill 1 hour.

Dust baking sheets lightly with flour and sprinkle with aniseed. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough 3/8-inch thick. Dust surface of dough with flour and smooth with fingertips. Press the mold into dough and lift up. Using a knife, cut out cookies and lace on baking sheet. Let dry overnight at room temperature; do not cover.

Preheat oven to 325°F. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until white on top. Transfer to racks.

Store in an airtight container up to 2 months.

    Makes about 2 ½ dozen.

    Delicious Holiday Baking with Williams-Sonoma

I'm usually a staunch bake-it-from-scratch kinda gal, but the new Williams-Sonoma holiday baking mixes have convinced me to bend the rules a bit. They are so well blended that no one will really know (unless they're the secret baking police) that you didn't really make it from scratch. Best of all, they are also easy to use. It's like fun baking, minus a few tedious steps!

The buttery Classic Sugar Cookie Mix is a great standard mix. No holiday party would be complete without a plate of these treats, whether they're decorated or simply sprinkled with colored sugar. Created by the award-winning Dancing Deer bakery , this all-natural mix is easy to prep – just add butter and eggs. It yields a lot of cookies (about five dozen), so you can decorate them to your heart's content. They can also be stored in the cute old-fashioned decorative tin.

    sugar%20cookie%20mix.jpg

Inspired by the traditional holiday drink, the Eggnog Poundcake Mix has a nice eggnoggy taste, but it's not too rich at all. In fact, you'll be eating more than one slice. Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, ground cinnamon and nutmeg are added for an extra holiday oomph. Just add water and butter, and voila! Instant elegant dessert. Great by itself, with hot cocoa, or tea. Or, you can slather on a thick layer of fudgy choco sauce for an ultimate indulgence. Go ahead, you've been nice all year, treat yourself...

Try the refreshing and cheery Peppermint Ice Cream recipe below. It is guaranteed to put you in the holiday mood...

    Peppermint Ice Cream

Children—and adults too—are fans of peppermint ice cream. Colored palest pink and dotted with bits of peppermint, the scoops can be served in cones or bowls.

This is especially good with chocolate cake.

    2 cups heavy cream
    2 cups milk
    ¾ cup granulated sugar
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    4 egg yolks
    1 teaspoon peppermint extract
4 ounces hard peppermint candies, crushed into small pieces

    christmas%20sweets%20ice%20cream.jpg

In a large, heavy saucepan, combine the cream, milk, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-heat and cook, stirring often, until the sugar has dissolved.

In a bowl, whisk the yolks together until they change to a lemon color. Gradually whisk about 2 cup of the hot milk mixture and continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. Refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours. Add the peppermint extract, stirring well. Freeze in an ice-cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. When the ice cream is partially frozen, stir in the candies. Makes about 1 quart.

NARS Holiday Color - Siren Song Collection

It's that special time of the year to sparkle, and NARS has the arsenal to pull your glam holiday look together. Their new 2007 Holiday Collection is full of shimmery plums and glittery silver, along with pretty crimson shades for the lips.

    Violetta_duo.jpg

There's a lot of fun colors to play with for the eyes. The Violetta duo eyeshadow contains a smoky lavender and a soft metaillic violet, allowing you to go for a soft and elegant look, or you can layer for a more dramatic effect. The Cheyenne duo is another winner with a metallic sienna and a gothic plum. I also love the sparkly glints in the Night Rider single eyeshadow.

    night_rider.jpg

The Luster blush is a nice golden apricot, imparting a warm glow that will work on most skin tones. For lip color, the Viridiana lipstick is the perfect burgundy shade to carry off the Old Hollywood flair. My favorites are the new Rose Gitane and Bad Education lip glosses - sheer sangria and crimson shades that are just gorgeous. Your lips will be saying 'kiss me!' with these colors.

    rose_gitane.jpg

Another new item to note is the Lip Gloss/Lip Stain Gloss collection. Combining a long-lasting color with a high-shine gloss, these duos create the ultimate sexy pout. Worn separately or together, you can layer the shades to your individual taste. Or get them all to mix and match! The Sandpiper/Daredevil (shimmering amber coral and scarlet red) and the Turkish Delight/Sayonara (pink sorbet, rose petal pink) duos are expecially lovely.

Sparkling Eyes with Eminence Eye Quattro Collection

Now that your social calender is jam-packed with one holiday soiree after another, you need to put your best face forward. Instead of slapping on the concealer to hide those dark circles, try the new Eminence Organics Eye Quattro treatment. The active organic ingredients in these four amazing proucts will banish the panda eyes, boost hydration levels, exfoliate and de-puff.

    eminencequattro.jpg

As the first step, the gentle Naseberry Eye Exfoliant is excellent at smoothing out the wrinkles. Wild Black Carrot helps diminish fine lines while Green Apple and Calendula infuse antioxidants to the skin. The Raspberry Eye Masque provides intense hydration with 16 vitamins and herbs to improve elasticity. The area around my eyes were so nice and dewy after using these two products. It is like an instant eye-lift. For maintenance I follow with either the Cucumber Eye Gel (instant de-puffer) or the iron-rich Wild Plum Eye Cream (targets dark circles). All of these may be used individually or together as a four-step treatment.

There is a holiday gift with purchase - buy any 2 Eye Quattro products and receive a lovely special edition ornament filled with travel size minis of the entire eye care collection!

For more winter protection, definitely get the creamy Linden Calendula Treatment or the Rich Black Perlette Grape Moisturizer from the Tradition Series (a group of favorite products with extra rich formulations). Super potent with active anti-aging ingredients, these will be a surefire way to prevent the cold weather dryness. Folks will be wondering what your secret is to fabulous skin!

    Coco-luxe Holiday Treats

Another reason to indulge for the holidays - Coco-luxe's holiday truffle assortment has the seasonal favorites to get you in the winter wonderland mood: pure dark chocolate, holiday cake, peppermint, hot cocoa, gingerbread and dreamy orange. I'm normally not a big fan of white chocolate, but the dreamy orange just pops with a nice citrus zing.

    cocoluxe%20holiday.jpg

If that's not enough, the classic pink box assortment will also make your taste buds tingle. The cute designs on each piece will make it easy to select your favorite flavors: angel food, gingerbread, dreamy orange, malted milk, banana split, german chocolate, devil’s food, after dinner mint and double cherry. The malted milk and banana split totally rocked.

    9box_pink.jpg

Also check out the new chocolate bars (I like Monkey'in Around - milk choco with banana chips, cocoa nibs and a hint of sea salt) and the dragée Block Party Almonds. Absolute chocolate heaven!
