Oscars Beauty - How To Get It!

Lancome ambassador Kate Winslet looked so regal last night at the Oscars. Wearing an elegant Yves Saint Laurent ensemble, Kate’s makeup artist Jillian Dempsey complemented her look with soft, natural makeup. Shimmering, champagne-pewter shades highlighted the eyes, while dramatic layers of mascara delivered extra definition. A pop of pink blush on her cheeks gave Kate just a hint of a natural flush. Jillian topped off the look with nude-pink lips.

Products used:

EYES
Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Kohl Eyeliner in Black
Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Mascara in Excessive Black
Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Blushing Raisins
Lancôme Brow Expert in Naturel

FACE & CHEEKS
Lancôme Photôgenic Lumessence Foundation
Lancôme Dual Finish Powder Foundation
Shu Uemura Blush in Pink 30

LIPS
Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge in Rich Cashmere
Lancôme Color Fever Gloss in Hotness

As for Avatar heroine Zoe Saldana, makeup artist Vera Steimberg decided to concentrate on her gorgeous eyes. She achieved this look by using the black Slant false lashes from shu uemura. Steimberg also used the shu uemura eye lash applicator to apply the lashes. I have it and love it - it makes things so much easier.

Larkspur & Hawk At Barneys New YorK

I first fell in love with Larkspur & Hawk's gorgeous fine jewelry last year. Inspired by antique jewelry designs from the 18th and 19th centuries, designer Emily Satloff successfully reintroduced the 18th century craft of using colored foils to produce a dramatic brilliance.

Just look at the Grace Ring. The intricate 14k white gold ring is lined with 22k yellow gold, and the blue topaz contains leaf foil to bring out the extra sparkle. From the same collection, the 18k rose gold Grace Pendant contains a lovely rose quartz with a fuchsia foil.
larkspur_grace_ring.jpglarkspurHawk_gracependant.jpg

The oxidized silver Olivia Day Night Earrings would go so well with the green amethyst on the Sophia Ring. The little ring of diamonds add such an opulent touch. These colors are so rich - they make you feel like royalty, that's for sure.

If I had a gala to attend, these Jane Day Night Earrings (with blue topaz and magenta foil) would be my top choice. And how about these Celeste Earrings? I can't believe it's the turquoise foil that's making it look so radiant.

Vouelle S/S 2010 Shoe Collection

Looking at Vouelle's Spring/Summer 2010 shoe collection, it makes me feel as if summer is indeed here. These jetsetter heels are just what we need for a glamour-filled vacation along the Mediterranean.

The glitzy Penelope and Veruschka platform sandals are de rigueur for the luxe beach parties of Saint Tropez.
PENELOPE_vouelle_2010.jpgVERUSCHKA_vouelle2010.jpg

The Jacqueline thong sandal is absolutely charming. It's so dainty and feminine - totally something I've come to expect from Vouelle. Working with Eric Charles Donatien of Maison Lemarié, the delicate organza fan is carefully handmade by the world's reigning plumassier. I wish I can see this in person, but from the image you can sense the detailed craftsmanship on this design.

For the first time ever, they've launched a playful gummy flat sandal. This is great for the chic minimalist who wants a dash of color.

Even the classic pumps are given a fun makeover. Check out the pink transparent plastic panels on the Gina satin pump. The white and salmon edging on the Bisset pump makes it stylish yet appropriate for the office.

Coye Nokes S/S 2010 Shoes

NYC-based shoe designer Coye Nokes has a lot of sophisticated designs for her Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The theme of these lovelies is inspired by an ‘urban riviera’ – the glamour of the French Riviera combined with a metropolitan edge.

Aren't the Grace wedges fun? Paired with a thin, flowy skirt and a floppy hat, the turquoise ones would be so fun to wear on a hot summer day.

CoyeNokes_SS10_GraceWedge.jpg

Architectural lines are brought to life by a Mediterranean color palette. I love the clean and polished look on the Joan Sandal. I especially like the sexy tapered heel - it makes the overall look more feminine. This sandal also comes in a black embossed python and a cognac calf leather.
CoyeNokes_SS10_JoanSandal.jpg

The Grace flats look pretty comfy; these also come in coral, gold embossed python and black patent. Now, if you want height, these Grace wedge sandals should do the trick. The curvy straps on this smokin' wedge makes it on my list for Spring.

Meadowood - Romantic Paradise In Wine Country

It's truly a blessing to be living so close to one of the world's best wine regions. There are so many great wineries and things to check out. When you're all tired from the Bacchanalial pleasures, you can relax and recharge your energy at a nearby luxury resort.

Of all the resorts I'd pick, Meadowood in St. Helena would be a superb choice. Located near the north end of the Silverado Trail, the elegant estate is tucked away in a secluded valley that stretches across 250 acres of trees, lush hills, lawns, and hiking trails.

estatelodge_deck_meadowood.jpg

The estate seems like a paradise that's far away from reality. Your mind will stop obsessing about the fifty emails that you need to deal with, and the concept of relaxation is at the forefront of your mind. If you're a nature lover, you'd be thrilled to see so many different types of trees on the property. You can spot tons of Redwoods, Oaks, Big Leaf Maples, Douglas Firs, California Buckeyes, Madrones and Bay Laurels.

meadowood_cottage.jpg

There are 85 cottages, suites and lodges within the resort. All of them are tucked into the hillside, so you get the utmost privacy. We stayed in one of the spacious Treeline Cottages - the wood-burning fireplace was so warm that we didn't need to turn up the heat. There are two TVs so you can literally laze about all day if you really wanted to. Since it was raining, that's what we did!

meadowood_suite.jpg

Naturally, the property has a two-starred Michelin restaurant. Under the leadership of Chef Christopher Kostow, The Restaurant at Meadowood is a culinary destination for those seeking a world-class dining option.

The Molten Parmesan Tortellini was beyond delicious. We both picked the extremely tender Giant Humboldt Squid entree; the cheese tasting was also one of the best we've seen. For dessert, we were wowed by the rich White Chocolate and Foie Gras Ganache and the interesting combination of Beets, Rose, and Cocoa. As if that wasn't enough, soft snickerdoodle financiers were set upon the table as a finishing touch.

meadowood_restaurant.jpgRestaurant_meadowood.jpg

Meadowood is not just all about relaxing - there's a big emphasis on health and wellness. Tennis courts, an executive golf course, croquet lawns, and swimming pools all surround the property. If you need pointers, a resident professional for tennis, croquet, and golf can help you improve your game. If that's not enough, they even have aerobics, pilates, and yoga classes, along with an on-site personal trainer.

meditation_spiral.jpg

I also got to visit their spa and tried their signature Meadowood Harvest Wrap. A detoxing dry brushing started the treatment, followed by a tea tree exfoliation. A hydrating masque is then applied and you get a sleep-inducing scalp massage as you're wrapped in warm towels. To finish the buffing, a Jurlique anti-oxidant lotion is smoothed over the entire body. With this body wrap, you'll end up with soft-as-butter skin.

There are lots of events going on at Meadowood. From their upcoming Valentine's Day dinner to their summer charity wine auction, this Napa Valley destination is not to be missed. If I had my way, I'd love to get hitched at this gorgeous locale.

SenSpa Body Scrubs for Valentine's Day

Tired of giving flowers and cards for Valentine's Day? If you're looking for a holistic gift for your honey, SenSpa's Wellness Apothecary is now offering a new line of handmade body scrubs for all skin types. Using the finest organic essential oils, these scrubs have the perfect amount of exfoliation and hydration for your skin type. All three lovely recipes are custom blended by Venetia, SenSpa’s Master Aromatherapist.

senspa_apothecary.jpg

Made with Thai Ginger Lemongrass, the Sen Earth scrub is a warming treatment that will improve concentration, relieve jet lag, and soothe lower back pain. This one is great for sensitive skin because it contains soft bamboo as the exfoliant. Bamboo also has enough natural moisture so this one doesn't have a carrier oil. This one smells so uplifting - great for reviving your spirit.

Sen Fire provides a healing effect for the body. Fragonia and Pink Peppercorn oils help promote emotional healing, improve circulation, and relieve achy muscles. This one is quite therapeutic and is great for those who need additional moisturizing, as it's in a base of coarse sugar, sunflower oil and jojoba oil.

Sen_Fire.jpg

The calming Sen Moon contains Clary Sage, Geranium, and Sage to reduce daily stress. This blend has sea salt, jojoba oil and grapeseed oil for its formula base. I haven't tried this one but it sounds relaxing.

If you live in San Francisco, you can visit SenSpa to watch Venetia in action. You can also custom order a perfume, cologne or essential oil for your optimum wellness, so make an appointment with Venetia today!

Givenchy Beauty Spring 2010 & Custom Makeup Giveaway!

The Givenchy Le Makeup line loves to reinvent itself each season. For example, their Spring 2010 launch has a new Le Prisme Mono eyeshadow. Each monochrome quad has four different textures (matte, iridescent, glittering, pearlescent) for each color, so you can achieve an endless array of looks.
givenchy_spring2010_YeuxMono.jpg
The Dressy Indigo looks so rockin' but it's too bold for my tastes. I preferred Hip Grey 03, New Look Mauve 02, and Casual Khaki 12. These cuties are so small and thin you can easily slip a couple into your purse without bulking it up. Paired with the new Parad’Eyes Liner in Mauve Impression (mauve with white and pink pearlescent highlights), your peepers will really dazzle this season.
givenchy_yeuxMono.jpg

The new formula for Le Prisme Blush has a higher concentration of pigments. Delivering more bang for your buck, you can really see the color payoff. The 4 shades within the quad may be used alone or mixed together for a custom look. I tried the Aficionado Peach 23 and the coral shades gave a nice pop of color to my cheeks.
Givenchy_spring2010_blush.jpg

The ultra lightweight Le Prisme Visage face powder has an improved texture. The Peach Plumetis 83 and Beige Mousseline 84 shades practically blended right into my skin, giving it a very natural finish. Like the blush, this compact has a new “clap & slide” case. The magnetic compact pops open to expose the powder, and the lower drawer slides out to reveal the brush. With softer bristles and a contoured angle, the brush design is also a new feature to optimize application. For added fun, these compacts have an eyelet for attaching cell phone charms.
LePrismeVisage_2010_givenchy.jpg

Now, here's the fun part! Givenchy offered to do a very special Custom Color Giveaway with us! Three lucky readers will be chosen for the fabulous prizes. Each winner will receive one Le Prisme Yeux Mono eyeshadow, one Le Prisme Blush and one Le Prisme Visage face powder of their choice from this new Spring collection.

Guerlain Beauty Cherry Blossom

Guerlain's Spring 2010 makeup colors emulate the first blush of springtime romance. Inspired by the delicate shades of the Far East, the Cherry Blossom collection is filled with fresh hues of pinks, corals and violet. From packaging to color payoff, this is just a stunning line.
Guerlain_Spring2010.jpg

After a cold, wet, and harsh winter, you just want to dive into these beautiful colors. The Ombre Eclat 4 Couleurs eyeshadow palette in Jeu d'Ombrelles is a kaleidoscope of purple, blue violet, pearlescent pink and white. The purples look dark in the image, but it actually goes on lightly, so it's easy to build up to a nighttime look.
Guerlain_Spring2010_eyeshadow.jpg

The Blush Eclat in Cherry Blossom resembles an intricate part of a geisha's silk kimono. Isn't this just gorgeous? The light pink and coral shades are accented with shimmering rose to create the perfect flush on the cheeks. This is fairly pigmented, so don't slap this on.
Guerlain_2010spring_blush.jpg

It's all about the lips this spring, at least according to Guerlain. Replacing the Maxi Shine formula, the new KissKiss Strass delivers maximum sparkle to your lovely lips. Available in ten permanent shades, I'm particularly in love with the shimmery Rouge Broderie 321 shade (bright raspberry) and the Rose Strass 361 (sheer pink).
Guerlain_spring2010_makeup.jpg Spring2010_kiss_strass.jpg

For the Rouge G addicts, there is a new Rouge G Le Brillant formula. Yes, ladies, this coveted lipstick collection now features ten additional colors for you to play with. I like Bella B63 (deep rose) and Bianca B21 (pink-coral). It has the same creamy texture as the original formula but this one adds a shiny finish, giving you more flirting power. C'est jolie, n’est-ce pas?

Winter Retreats at Hotel Healdsburg

While Spring and Summer are the best seasons to enjoy Northern California's wine country, I think Winter is a great time to take advantage of the region without all the tourists flocking to the area. It's considered to be a low season so hotel packages are more appealing and a bit easier on the wallet.

hotel_healdsburg.jpg

To start your new year off to a bright and healthy start, Hotel Healdsburg has an extremely relaxing Winter Cleansing Spa Package to rejuvenate your body and soul. The road to bliss starts with a gentle dry brushing to increase the body's circulation. A detoxifying seaweed body wrap is then applied.

Spa_healdsburghotel.jpg

To enhance the purification process you get a nice soak in the spa tub. Using detoxifying massage oils, a full body massage follows (so relaxing I almost fell asleep at this point). To end things on a beautiful note, a custom Eminence Organics facial will revive fatigued skin. The facial also includes a refining glycolic acid or a gentle enzyme peel to ensure a radiant visage.

hotelhealdsburg_pool.jpg

The hotel itself has a light modern feel without being cold. The entire staff is very warm and accommodating, so you're in great hands. Upon entering our room we were greeted with a cheese plate and chilled white wine. The bathtub is really deep so you can also take a nice long soak while enjoying a glass of wine.

hotelhealdsburg_room.jpg

The adjoining restaurant, Charlie Palmer's Dry Creek Kitchen, is just as inviting. We started off with a citrusy Fennel Crusted Flash Seared Hamachi appetizer and the Dungeness Crab Tempura. The Crispy Veal Sweetbreads + Chicken Confit Agnolotti was also delicious. The killer entree for the evening, however, was the Crispy Skin Local Black Cod with a lemongrass and ginger consomme. The flesh was so milky and soft. If I could buy bottles of the consomme I'd use it on all my cooking.

drycreek_cod.jpg

The desserts were also nothing short of amazing. We had the famous Chocolate + Peanut Butter Bar and the Valrhona Chocolate Budino with Guiness Ice Cream (yes, beer-flavored ice cream).
drycreek_dessert.jpg

Sommelier Drew Munro is really knowledgeable about the local wineries and he did a great wine pairing for our dinner. We're now fans of the Lime Stone 2008 Sauvignon Blanc and the Williamson 2007 Chardonnay.

DryCreekKitchen_Terrace.jpg

If you can't make it to Hotel Healdsburg this month, not to worry. They have a great Valentine's Day weekend package that includes a two nights in a Deluxe King room, spa treatments for two, and a decadent six-course dinner. Dry Creek Kitchen also has an exciting food celebrity-studded Pigs & Pinot culinary weekend coming up in late March. For more info, go to www.hotelhealdsburg.com.

Diptyque Holiday Soaps & Candles

Diptyque has some luxurious gifts for this holiday season, and it's quite hard to choose which one to get for your loved ones. Every scent I've smelled from this Parisian company is quite bewitching.

To bring in a festive environment, the new trio of Holiday Limited-Edition Candles are a lovely addition to the home. Available in Roasted Chestnut, Evergreen, and Resin, these gorgeous candles are housed in colorful and elegant glass containers ($68). If those are not in the budget, there are also mini candles ($28) to consider. They come in the following scents: Feu de Bois (Firewood), Pomander (Orange/Clove), Cannelle (cinnamon), Amber, and Pine.

diptyque_Roasted%20Chestnut_Candle.jpg

The new milled soaps are great (and affordable) stocking stuffers for the fragrance addict. I was especially entranced by the Do Son (tuberose, orange tree leaves, rose, benzoin, iris, and white musk) soap. I'm not a huge floral gal but this one really surprised me with its freshly intoxicating scent. I was also very happy to see it available in the unisex L'Ombre dans L'Eau (black currant leaf and Bulgarian rose). These soaps are so fragrant it made my bathroom smell so nicely. They also lather up beautifully. The soap collection also features scents of Philosykos, Tam Dao, and L’eau ($15 each or three for $38).

Vosges Holiday Truffle Collection

Vosges Haut-Chocolat has some mouthwatering chocolate flavors for the holidays. Their lovely Holiday Truffle Collection pays homage to nostalgic Victorian holiday traditions. This limited edition collection is also adorned with a keepsake Jonathan Adler peace sign ornament.

holiday_vosges.jpg

Be prepared to be wowed with updated twists on classic flavors like Holiday Plum Pudding. I really loved the creamy and decadent Mascarpone and Ceylon Cinnamon Snap (Italian mascarpone, Ceylon cinnamon, organic sour cream, 45% deep milk chocolate). The Candy Cane Peppermint (All natural candy cane, peppermint, 65% dark chocolate) is deeply refreshing and the Eggnog and Jamaican Rum (Appleton Estate rum, Grenadian nutmeg, ginger, Dominican Republic white chocolate) is just amazing if you love eggnog.

luxe_casati.jpg

For more chocolate bliss, the Marchesa Casati Truffle Collection is a luxurious pearl that is meant to be slowly savored. This collection is named after Luisa Casati, one of the most scandalous figures of the early 20th century. She inspired chocolatier Katrina Markoff to create a sinfully delightful black sea salt caramel that's enrobed in 85% bittersweet dark chocolate. These precious truffles are then showered with real freshwater pearl dust. This is a rare and special collection and it will run out, so get yours soon!

Vosges also has an exclusive holiday discount code! Just type in BLGF09 at checkout and you'll get a 10% discount from now through December 31, 2009.

Jimmyjane Holiday Gifts

If you need a gift for that someone special, Jimmyjane has some sensual ideas for you. These fun items are guaranteed to place a smile on their lips.

The EMBER candle range is featuring a new special edition scent, Absinthe + Sugar Water. This sweetly sexy candle contains notes of fennel and anise to heighten your senses. It also smells a bit masculine so both men and women will stick to this like catnip.

jimmyjane_EMBER_Absinthe.jpg

As you inhale this intoxicating aphrodisiac scent, you can also pour the melted oil onto your partner's skin. Not only does it make for a stimulating massage, the oil will moisturize with its spa-grade jojoba, shea butter, Vitamin E, soy, aloe and other botanical extracts. This lead-free candle also contains a clean-burning cotton wick and will last 72 hours.

To compliment the EMBER, the Contour Q ceramic massage stones will work those tough kinks out. This latest addition to their massage line contains two designs that are meant for the pressure points. One has soothing rippled grooves while the other has stimulating bumps of varying sizes. You can also soak these in warm water for a hot stone massage effect, or cool them in the fridge to stimulate the circulation. Or...for more fun, check out their tutorial on how to use these fantastic massage stones.

ContourQ_jimmyjane.jpg

For those who want something naughtier, JimmyJane just launched their new FORM 2 Rechargeable Waterproof Vibrator. This was part of a design collaboration with industrial designer Yves Behar.

The tip of each ear is individually powered for simultaneous stimulation, and this compact design is supposed to provide more intensity than other comparable products. With five intensity levels and four vibration modes, you're in for the ride of your life.

Guerlain 2009 Imperial Holiday

Guerlain's 2009 Imperial Holiday makeup colors are truly a royal collection filled with sumptuous jewels. Fit for any empress, this season celebrates aristocratic splendor with a refined and balanced touch.

Guerlain_Holiday09model.jpg

The Ombre Eclat 4 Shades Eye Shadow quad (in Bal de Minuit) is one of my favorites for this season. It's a pretty subdued color palette, but when you put it on, it's just gorgeous. The pearlescent texture in the two taupe shades will create a dreamy and soft smoky lid, while the lingerie pink and gold-white tones bring out the eyes' natural radiance. It's an elegant and sophisticated look without going over the top.
Guerlain_ImperialHoliday.jpg

This collection also features two shades of the Rouge G Lipstick (#11 Grace and #12 Gems). I liked Gems because of it's soft rosewood color. It compliments quite well with the eye shadows, giving you a beautiful smile without using a screaming red color. For an even more gentle shade, you an also use the KissKiss Gloss in #809 Rubis Rose (sheer plum chocolate).
Guerlain_Holiday09_rougeG.jpg

To complete the opulent look, use the Meteorites Perles Imperiales for a glowing finish. These multiple-effect pearls are re-formulated in new shades (mauve, pink, and gold) to create that fresh and illuminating complexion that we all crave. For a really fancy accessory, they also offer these pearls in a special Meteorites Voyage Imperial pressed powder compact that's decorated with Swarovski crystals. So lovely!

Armani 2009 Holiday Crystal Collection

Giorgio Armani's new Crystal Collection has a gorgeous collector's item for the beauty queens. Decked out in black and silver crystals, the limited-edition holiday colors are concealed inside the two-tiered Crystal Palette compact. If I didn't know any better it looked more like an art deco inspired jewelry case. The first level features a neutral iridescent body powder with a sparkling overlay while the bottom holds four metallic eyeshadows (shimmery jet black, bronze metal, silver, and jade).
armani_holiday_palette.jpg

Two lipsticks are also introduced within this collection. Embellished with crystals, the Crystal ArmaniSilk lipsticks come in a bright and rich ruby red and a shimmery bronze for a less intense lip.

RougedArmani_model.jpg

If you need more lip colors, the new Rouge d'Armani lipsticks are another great collection to try. These long-wearing shades are supposed to last up to 8 hours and won't feather. These are highly pigmented and feel super light, as if you're not wearing any lipstick. I really liked Pink 505, a dark berry shade that should look great on almost everyone. The magnetic closure is also an ingenious touch.

Lia Lintern Winter 2010 Coat Collection

Lia Lintern has some of the most stylish and feminine coats I've seen in a long time. Ladies, if you want to stand out in a sea of drab gray and black wool coats this season, get one of these colorful darlings.
lintern_odessa.jpg
Odessa coat by Lia Lintern

The 2010 Winter collection is nothing short of divine. My favorite is the Sofia coat. I just love the corset back and the rouched neck collar. It can double as a winter dress. What a beauty.
sofia_lintern.jpglintern_Sofiaback.jpg

My other fave is the Odessa style. This cashmere wool blend coat features a pretty trapunto lattice snowflake design on the waist panel. I'd feel like a snow princess wearing this one.
Geneva_lialintern.jpgGenevaback_lintern.jpg
Geneva coat with countoured pin tuck design

These coats are not terribly budget friendly, BUT...like all high quality pieces, these gorgeous couture coats are designed and made to last for a long, long time. So think of it as a long-term investment. Plus, you are guaranteed 6 months' worth of tweaking if the fit is not perfect. It's like having a custom tailor in NYC!

For the budget fashionistas - the discontinued Yuliya coat is now offered at a 50% discount. There is a size 4 and 6 left. I'm so putting this on my holiday wish list...

Dolce & Gabbana Fragrance Anthology

If you're a Dolce & Gabbana fan, you can now round out your runway ensemble with a fashionable scent from their new Fragrance Anthology collection. The names of the five unisex fragrances were inspired by tarot cards (1 Le Bateleur, 3 L'Imperatrice, 6 L'Amoureaux, 10 La Roue de la Fortune, and 18 La Lune) and each one is represented by an iconic model.

The%20Faces.jpg
Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, Naomi Campbell, Fernando Fernandes, Noah Mills and Tyson Ballou are the faces behind D&G's fragrance line.

Most of these are more on the feminine side, but I prefer 6 L'Amoureaux (The Lovers). The masculine notes (bergamot, juniper berry, pink pepper, cardamom, birch leaf, orris root, musk, and wood) is like catnip to me. It doesn't smell overwhelmingly woodsy as some of the other men's fragrance out there - perhaps it's lightened up so women can wear it easily.

DG.1.jpg

If you do like florals, you might like the 10 La Roue de la Fortune (gardenia, jasmine, tuberrose) or 18 La Lune (lily, rose, tuberose). 3 L'Imperatrice is a bit fruitier with watermelon, kiwi and red currant, and 1 Le Bateleur is a sporty fragrance with watery cedar and vetiver.

Vouelle Fall/Winter 2009/2010 Shoe Collection

I'm a devoted fan of Vouelle's ultra romantic shoes and I was terribly excited to see their new designs for the Fall/Winter 2009-2010 season. They're getting a bit more funky and whimsical, which is always a fun thing for all the holiday parties and soirées. Just look at this showstopper 4C stiletto! Aren't those patent leather pinwheels completely adorable? If you wear this shoe, you can be sure no one else will have it.

I so want these Dana R satin pumps. It may be in black, but the ruffled side decoration and sexy feathers will turn heads all evening. They just scream 'Paris chic' to me.

Rejuvenate & Thrive at SenSpa

I thought I've seen it all with the latest skin care trends, but the gorgeous SenSpa had something truly unique to offer in terms of skin exfoliation and renewal. I recently tried the amazing Super Hydrating Facial, one of the most popular services at SenSpa. I didn't really know what the hype was all about, but I can now attest to amazing results from this treatment.

senspa_RelaxationArea.jpg

The facial features a patented HydraFacial machine that performs a really efficient surface exfoliation. The HydraPeel tip planes off the dead skin cells, revealing brighter and softer "baby" cells (don't worry, it won't hurt at all). The tip also flushes your skin with a special blend of antioxidant-infused fruit acids. A custom mask and additional protective serums are then applied, ensuring all pigmentation and anti-aging issues are addressed.

Facialist.jpg

I haven't seen this type of exfoliating machine anywhere else, so I think they're the only ones that have this special treatment in the Bay Area. I couldn't believe how butter soft my skin is. This is as close to baby skin as I'm going to get!

Fireplace.jpg

This day spa is really a zen oasis sitting on the edge of the Presidio. They really emphasize wellness and holistic treatments to heal your body and soul. They even have a wellness coach to help you address your personal needs. How cool is that?

There is a special skin care package going on right now at SenSpa. The first 50 folks to book the new Polarity Peel will receive a free full-size bottle of the new SkinCeuticals Retexturizing Activator ($70 value). What a deal.

senspa_PinkRelaxationArea.jpg

Another promotion, called the SenSpa Road to Recovery, is another sweet deal to think about. From now through September 30, when you enjoy 4 treatments (valued at a minimum of $110 each), you'll receive a SenSpa gift card worth $115. You don't need to pay for all 4 treatments up front - just pay as you go.

They're also hosting a Stella & Dot trunk show on Tuesday, September 29th from 6:30-8:30pm. Try on gorgeous costume jewelry and enjoy light refreshments in the spa’s serene Presidio setting. BONUS: book any SenSpa treatment while at the event and you’re automatically entered into a drawing for Stella & Dot gift certificates!

Hotel Cheval - Elegant R&R in Paso Robles

When thinking about weekend trips in Wine Country, most folks think of Napa or Sonoma. If you've already been to those areas, Paso Robles might be a great new option. This 'undiscovered' wine region boasts more than 200 wineries, so you'll be very busy tasting as many wines as you can. Hearst Castle is also close by, if you want to stretch out your stay.

If you do go there, the downtown area is a good home base. The lovely Hotel Cheval is the perfect spot for some well-deserved R&R. This intimate boutique hotel is a mini oasis that's just off the historic downtown area. Their airy and spacious rooms are well-appointed; I loved the high vaulted ceilings and cozy window seating area. Each of these stylish rooms also feature luxurious California King beds (so so comfy), soft down comforters, 400-thread count sheets, and flat-screen televisions.

hotelchevak_Courtyard.jpg

The hotel also provides in-room spa treatments (massages, body scrubs, reflexology and facials). All you have to do is throw on a robe, sit back and enjoy the pampering treatment. There's no need to walk to any spa treatment room outside. I got the Cheval Signature Massage and it was so relaxing I caught myself drifting off to dreamland.

The concierge was really accommodating. We arrived right before the huge dinner rush and she was able to score us last-minute reservations at the totally awesome Artisan Restaurant. And, to transport you to your dinner in grand style, Chester the adorable Red Belgian Draft horse will carry you off on a fun carriage ride to and from the restaurant.

hotelcheval_LuxuryRoom.jpg

There's a few great packages currently available for your getaway. If you're a wine lover, there's a personalized Wine Tasting package that includes a detailed wine tour led by a certified Sommelier. A private picnic lunch will also be served at one of the wineries.

For a romantic rendezvous, The Couples/Elopement package includes a complimentary bottle of champagne for you to toast your beloved. Afterwards, both of you can enjoy a sensual Candlelit Couples Massage together in the privacy of your own room. If you do decide to get hitched, their gorgeous outdoor courtyard can hold up to 50 guests.

Dolce & Gabbana The Make Up

Partnering with renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath, Dolce & Gabbana's The Make Up collection is too luxurious for words. With the glamorous Scarlett Johansson as the face of their ad campaign, she perfectly embodies the provocative spirit of this seductive line.

DolceGabbana_MakeUp_scarlettjohansson.jpg

The gold metal packaging makes you feel like a million bucks, but the contents within is even better. With a powdery rose scent, the Classic Cream Lipstick is inspired by 1950s beauty. The formula is light yet creamy, giving the right amount of moisture on the lips. I don't normally wear bold red shades, but the cool and pearly Chromed 230 was the perfect femme fatale look for me. I love it. This also lasts for quite a long time, and it's the first red lipstick that didn't bleed! That in itself is worth buying this lipstick.

DolceGabbana_makeupl.jpg

For the eyes, the Smooth Eye Colour Quad is your ticket to sophistication. All the colors are buildable, so they actually appear lighter on the lid. To get a smokier look all you have to do is add more layering. The silky texture feels great on the skin, and you can use a wet or dry brush to create various looks. The gorgeous Mediterraneo palette has warm shades of shimmery gold, forest green, matte brown, and deep silver while the Elegance palette contains shades of matte grey, steel grey, metallic green, and porcelain gold shimmer.

shadow_quad_mediterraneo.jpg

The Luminous Cheek Colour blush is one of the most decadent blush compacts I've seen. It comes with a sturdy mini brush that actually does a good job of depositing the right amount of color on the cheeks. The Rose shade is soft and delicate, giving a romantic wash of color that's also good for subtle contouring around the temples and chin.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Fall 2009 Manta Ray & Eyes To Kill

Giorgio Armani Beauty's fall collection is all about the softer smoky eye, and their new Manta Ray Eye Duo palettes offer an array of colors to fit every style. As usual, these colors were inspired by the materials used in Giorgio Armani fashion accessories. Because they're less intense, these are also timeless shades that you can carry into springtime looks. I really liked the n° 3 palette, a romantic lilac grey and light fuchsia.

armani_fall09makeup.jpg

For the lips, the Armani Silk Lipstick n°92 keeps the focus right on the dramatic eyes. The grey-blue tones in this soft plum lipstick add intensity to the lip without giving a jarring contrast.
mantaray_EyeShadow_Duo.jpg

For more Fall runway variations of the smoky eye, the color purple is now the new black. The Eyes to Kill eye shadows feature a cool palette called Gun Metal Grey. This purple smoky eye can be paired with both nude and dark lips. The palette's unique bull’s eye design provide three shadows to easily line, shade, and highlight the lids. The other color palettes come in Black Steel, Brown Copper, and Red Iron. For really killer eyes, finish the look with the super volumizing Eyes To Kill Mascara.
eyes_to_kill_armani.jpg

Let's not forget about skin care! Their new Crema Nera OMC³ contains a potent Obsidian Mineral Complex, which is a patented blend of four minerals (Iron, Silicon, Sodium and Potassium). These minerals are naturally present in black obsidian stone, which gives strength to the rich soil of Pantelleria. This richly-textured cream also contains an SPF 15 sunscreen, so it does the double duty of protecting and regenerating the skin. Lines are plumped out and skin layers are restructured in no time.

Givenchy Les Poetiques 2009 Fall Makeup & Play Men's Fragrance

Givenchy Le Makeup Artistic Director Nicolas Degennes shows off a romantic mood in his Les Poétiques 2009 Fall-Winter makeup collection. Shimmery and vivid pinks, soft silvery lavender, and metallic gold all play a role in the dreamy and melancholy palette.

Les%20Poetiques.jpg

I adore the limited edition Prismissime Eyes palette in Poetique Blues. The powdery texture is super silky and glides on so nicely. The shades are all buildable from sheer to opaque. The golden beige/pink shades compliment the purples so well. You can definitely end up with a light smoky look with this palette. It's going to be one of my favorite compacts to use this season.

givenchy_poetiques_prismissime.jpg

For a dramatic eye, you can line your eyes with the Para'Eyes Liner in Poetique Lavender. The liquid liner is a dark blue shade with a metallic finish, giving it that extra ooh la la. Finally, to finish, the lips are toned down a bit for this look, with delicate pinks ruling the game. The Rouge Interdit lipstick in Poetique Iris is a pink tinged with blue, rounding out the soft and dreamy expression.

Poetiques_liner.jpg LesPoetiques_iris.jpg

Givenchy also just launched their new men's fragrance Play. The playful scent carries top notes of bergamot, mandarin orange, bitter orange, and grapefruit. Amyris wood, black pepper, and coffee flower act as middle notes while vetiver and patchouli round out the sensual base notes.

play_givenchy.jpg

I personally love it. It smells so nice I want to wear it myself as a unisex cologne. The cute bottle looks like an Mp3 player too. Doesn't Justin Timberlake look cute in their ad campaign? Click on the video link below and check out the behind-the-scenes ad shoot with JT.

Cocoa Absolute Chocolate

I'm a lucky girl. As a chocolate reviewer I get to try many types of chocolate, and I'm always proud to see a local chocolatier start a new adventure in the abundant world of cacao. Enter Cocoa Absolute, a new premium boutique chocolate company.

A former pastry chef, Jewel Zimmer's foray in gourmet chocolate is a sensual wonder. Working with chocolate that's made from exotic single-origin cacao beans, she then adds her unique alchemy to each flavor profile by infusing each square with cocoa extract. These delicate pavés of chocolate are almost too beautiful to eat - almost.

cocoa_absolute_squares.jpg

I love the Rose 70% box. Made with Forestero beans from the Congo, this one has delicate floral and citrus subtleties. Jewel decided to pursue this feminine route and added rose essence to the chocolate. The result is just sublime and fragrant. Your palate is left with lingering notes of a rose bouquet, but it's not sweetly overwhelming. If anything, it reminds you of past love affairs or a clandestine rendez-vous.

cocoaabsolute.jpg

The Brulee 66% is made from prized Criollo beans from Venezuela. This one has burnt sugar and sea salt - totally extraordinary. I liked how the salt particles played on the palate, as if quietly teasing the senses. The packaging is also sleek and sexy, matching the seductive contents within. While they make great presents for the gourmand in your life, I'd be loath to give them away.

Guerlain Fall 2009 Russian Beauty Collection

From Moscow with love, the new Russian Beauty Fall 2009 makeup collection from Guerlain is inspired by model and muse Natalia Vodianova. Capturing the fragile essence of Slavic beauty, the bohemian colors are all about rosy lips, fresh cheeks, and smoky crimson eyes.
guerlain_russianbeauty_09fall.jpg

The collection features an Ombre Éclat 4 Shades Eye Shadow compact (406 Tsarina), which includes shades of faded orange, brick red, old rose and aubergine. This rich palette is reminiscent of enchanting dresses worn by Russian princesses. The sumptuous black-and-gold compact is just plain gorgeous, making you feel like royaly each time you open it. To make a smoky eye, the Retractable Eye Pencil in silvery purple Bohemian is a great way to accent the eye line. For a daytime look, use the Gold or Silver pencil to add a sparkly accent.

guerlain_fall09_makeup.jpg

To get natural lips, the Kiss Kiss Baby Nourishing Lip Balm is the way to go. The sheer shades add just the right amount color on the lip, giving that 'just bitten' effect. Wild Mango Butter and Luffa Oil make these balms really moisturizing. Plus, this also have SPF 10 to protect the lips. If you're in a hurry and have no time for your usual makeup routine, slap on this balm and you're set. I really like the 220 Red Nude shade - it's the perfect wash of rouge. For those who want to keep it real simple, they have it in a clear shade (200 Cristal Nude)
guerlain_kisskissbaby.jpg

Another new launch to look out for is the Parure Gold Rejuvenating Gold Radiance Foundation. Gold Radiance Pigments, Myrrh, and a peptide blend help illuminate the skin in a subtle manner, giving a restorative glow to the complexion. Lines are diminished, pores are reduced, and dull areas are camouflaged.

It sits very comfortably on the skin, and the shades almost blend into your own skin tone (at least for me). It comes in two options, so you get to pick the texture you prefer. I like the ultra lightweight fluid for a medium coverage. For lighter cover up I like use the powder, which you can build up to a desired coverage. It almost feels like a combination of liquid foundation and pressed powder. And, it smells so nice!

Diptyque Art of Body Care

Nobody does fragrances like Diptyque. I've been in love with their candles and home sprays for many years and it was so nice to see the launch of their new Art of Body Care line. Inspired by journeys to Aleppo, Byzantium, Alexandria, Cordoba, and Florence, your senses are taken on a whirlwind trip around ancient civilizations.

The collection consists of five luxurious products to pamper the entire body. I love all of them, but my favorite has to be the intense soufflé-textured Crème Riche (with Turkish rose, organic honey, argan oil), followed by the Precious Oils (organic sweet almond oil, argan oil, and macadamia oil). It's a dry body oil that absorbs almost instantly, with notes of iris, cedar and vetiver lingering on the skin.

diptyque_artofbody.jpg

The rest of the line is just as decadent. The Gelée Lactée creamy body wash is a concentrated olive oil formula peppered with notes of bay laurel, rosemary and lemon. The Lait Frais (fresh lotion) is very uplifting with its green notes of petitgrain and orange blossom. The velvety Baume Généreaux (hand balm) is filled with apricot kernel oil, shea butter and argan oil.

Diptyque also just introduced L’Eau de Tarocco, the new unisex cologne. The fruitiest fragrance of Diptyque’s cologne collection, this one has notes of blood orange, grapefruit, saffron, Bulgarian rose, cedar wood and white musk. If you haven't tried any of their fragrances, this one is a great one to start with.

eau_deTarocco.jpg

For the jet-setters, the new travel collection features mini candles, body washes, and body lotions in your favorite scents. Each candle has a 30-hr burn time, and is available in Figuier, Gardenia, Jasmin, Mimosa, and Baies. The body care items are available in Philosykos, L’ombre dans L’eau and Tam Dao.

Givenchy Gloss Interdit Giveaway!

Ladies - here's your latest arsenal to plump up your fabulous lips. The new Givenchy Le Makeup Gloss Interdit collection is finally on the counters. Available it 15 gorgeous shades, these opaque glosses are more of a liquid lipstick. My personal favorites are Lilac Confession, Rose Taboo, and Indiscreet Beige. For a fun look, I recommend Succulent Orange and Glamorous Fuschia. The Velvet Purple is great for a goth look.

givenchy_gloss_interdit.jpg

The pearlescent (Silvershine) and mirror-like (Silverglass) particles give the non-sticky formula an exceptional shine to the lips, as if you've been painted with airbrush makeup. For a plumping and moisturizing effect, microspheres of hyaluronic acid settle on the lips to fill in fine lines. The texture is comfy, without being too thick.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Moisture Velvet & Prime Plenish

All my gal pals know I adore Shu Uemura cosmetics, but their Art of Hair hair care made me fall even deeper in love with the brand. I highly recommend the Moisture Velvet collection. I only used the shampoo, and right after rinsing my hair already felt much softer. After using the conditioner, the hair turned into a shiny curtain of silk threads. The moisture factor was so high it lasted into the next day. Camellia oil is the main ingredient in creating such a luxurious and velvety texture. This is also safe for color-treated hair.

art_of_hair_shuuemura.jpg

I also tried the new Prime Plenish vitalizing shampoo and conditioner, and it's just as lovely. This line is ideal for aging hair, as the products help strengthen thinning and time-weakened hair by rebuilding the saline bonds. The key ingredient here is jasmine oil. Once considered an extremely precious flower in Japanese culture, it was available only in emperors' imperial gardens. The jasmine scent is intoxicating. It felt like I was swimming in a garden of flowers.

Chocolate Heaven with Amedei Napolitains and Pralines

I'm in pure chocolate heaven. The Amedei White Chocolate Bar with Pistachios is simply the most decadent white bar I've had in a while. The Sicilian pistachios complement the cocoa butter so well - it's not overwhelming the bar at all. I normally don't go for whites simply because they're usually too sweet but this one stole my heart. The vanilla is not too strong either, so it brings out the creamy milk flavors, melding perfectly with the cocoa butter.
amedei_whitepist.jpg

Using rare "Porcelana" criollo beans, the limited edition Porcelana Napolitains are really beautiful. Generally these beans result in a more delicate taste, but this one comes on quite dark in the beginning, with lots of woodsy and smoky hints, ending with a fresh and mellow finish. It's just so darn smooth and dreamy, its texture gliding around the palate like a graceful swan. For a more robust profile, the Chuao Napolitains are also worth trying. The prized and legendary Chuao beans are used, resulting in a fruity explosion of plums and red berries. For dark chocolate lovers, you can't go wrong with these selections.
amedei_napolitains.jpg

If you really want to go all out, the special Le Praline box is a sumptuous gift idea or for yourself. It's totally forgiveable if you end up munching on most of the truffles - they're that delicious. These classically made pralines include the Capriccio with fior di vite and grappa, the Vin Santo, and the Solare with zabaglione.

praline_amedei_box.jpg

With it's masterful precision in crafting such gorgeous chocolate, it's really not a big surprise to see Amedei winning so many awards at this year's World Chocolate Awards. They swept away eight of them, including the top Golden Bean prize.

Lancome Beauty at NY Met Costume Gala

Check out the following makeup used by Lancome for the Metropolitan Museum of Art for Vogue's Costume Institute gala. The star-studded evening included hosts Marc Jacobs, Kate Moss and Justin Timberlake, and many luminous beauties from the fashion and film realm.

Celebrity makeup artist Leslie Lopez gave Anne Hathaway her ultra-dramatic look with smokey eyes as the focal point. Leslie swept Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Statuesque over the entire eyelid, then dabbed Color Design Eyeshadow in Daylight on the brow bone.
anne_hathaway.jpg

She finished with several coats of Lancôme L'Extreme Mascara in Black. Anne’s sheer, neutral colored lipstick--Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Couture Suede—was the finishing touch.

Supermodel Du Juan's look:
Lancôme makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor created Du Juan’s radiance by using Lancôme Artliner in Brown on the upper lash line. He then added a few coats of Lancôme Virtuôse Black Carat Mascara, giving her lashes a boost of volume and length.

Andrew added just a touch of color to the eyes with Shu Uemura Eyeshadow in ME Brown 860 and ME Pink 100. He lined the lips with Lancôme Le Lipstique in Natural Mauve and topped it with La Laque Fever gloss in Pink Dimension, resulting in a pretty pink pout. A dusting of Star Bronzer in Bronze Dore gave Du Juan a sun-kissed complexion.

Giorgio Armani Summer Beauty

Giorgio Armani's new Lasting Silk UV Foundation SPF 20 is a great alternative to thick TV or photography makeup (ideal for bridal pics!). The pump dispenser bottle is so well made. Just squirt out one nickel-sized dollop into your palm and spread across your face. The feel is light and smooth, and is an all-purpose formula. You get sunscreen and medium coverage for both special days or for everyday wear. This is a new water-based formula that lasts 14-hours.

armani_lasting_silk.jpg

The Crema Nera Eye Compact has the Obsidian Mineral Complex (key ingredients silicium, sodium, iron and potassium) that is crucial to cell regeneration. The concentrated cream absorbs so nicely into the delicate eye area. I didn't even have to dab at it too much before it disappeared into the skin. Fine lines are plumped up, and you get an instant radiant glow. I even use it on my lips to freshen up before meetings. It also has a built-in mirror that swings out for on-the-go touch ups! The matching Crema Nera Obsidian Mineral Restoring Serum is used for fighting deep wrinkles and severely dry skin. I like the clean scent - not too heavily perfumed. The length and depth of wrinkles are reduced while providing plenty of nourishing moisture.

crema_nera_eye.jpg

For that golden goddess look, the Sienna Minerals Bronzing Palette evokes vivid earth shades (deep reddish brown, golden flecks, and choco brown) of the sienna landscape. The ultra smooth Microfil texture completes this sunny tapestry of summer colors. This can be used as either an all-over bronzing blush or a sculpting highlighter.

Givenchy Peel Me Perfectly & Radically No Surgetics

Givenchy's new Peel Me Perfectly is a neat triple action scrub. It acts like a cleanser, exfoliator, and mask, all at the same time. Oarweed extract and glycolic acid aid in skin renewal, and a clay extract helps purify the pores. This is a fun scrub to use. Apply a generous amount and massage over the face with gentle circular movements.

peelmeperfectly_givenchy.jpg

I also tried the Radically No Surgetics Complete Age-Defying Care day cream. The texture is so light and fluffy, not heavy at all. I usually opt for a fluid emulsion texture for daytime, but this one is going straight to my bathroom shelf for daily use now!

givenchy_radicallynosurgetics.jpg

This treatment cream is especially formulated for multiple signs of aging (wrinkles, slackening, dullness, etc.). It's packaged in such a pretty eye-catching metallic violet container. The night cream version is supposed to reduce dark spots after two months of usage. So start dreaming those icky spots away...

Eminence Biodynamic Collection

My skin is considered to be normal, but when I'm having an off day (no sleep or sun damage) it can change my skin chemistry for a while. Once irritated, the daily regimen products I use might be too much to handle and I'm left wondering what I should use to remedy my crabby skin.

So imagine my delight when I learned about the new Eminence Organics Biodynamic Collection. The products are lighter in scent and color compared to their regular line, but I'm a big fan of this collection. Originally formulated for medi spas, the sensitive skin friendly line from the venerable Hungarian company works for all skin types. The line is hypoallergenic and clinically tested, and the potency of these ultra gentle products are not to be underestimated.

Biodynamic_eminence.jpg

Each product in this collection contains a minimum of 95% organic ingredients and up to 88% Biodynamic nutrients. Biodynamic farming practices a holistic view of the universe, producing highly nutrient-rich ingredients. That translate to powerful and results-driven skin care.

The Lemon Grass Cleanser is a mild, creamy, and hydrating balm on irritated skin. This is great for post-peel treatments or if you've been dehydrated from baking in the sun. My skin must have been quite thirsty, as the Apricot Calendula Nourishing Cream soaked right in. My face literally drank up the active nutrients in no time. For oily skin, the Echinacea Recovery Cream has a nice light fluid texture that will absorb easily.

The Primrose & Melon Balancing Masque smells like a freshly baked fruit tart - very calming (thanks to Marigold and Primrose) and a good skin toner. The Yellow Sweet Clover Anti-Redness Masque is great for rosacea skin. I liked the Radish Seed Refining Peel. The AHA/BHA gently renews the skin while Lemon Balm helped detox the skin cells.

The Bearberry Eye Repair cream nourishes with brightening properties from the Bearberry extract. Unlike most rich eye creams, this is not heavy at all. For body care, the bioactive Alfalfa, Yarrow, and Sunchoke in the Quince Nourishing Body Lotion is great for eczema skin prone types.

Shu Uemura Pink Collection & White Recovery EX Instant Spot Brightener

Edgy shu uemura never fails to impress me. The new Pink Collection is yet another fine example. I'm not a pink kinda gal, yet the Gloss Unlimited in PK 378S (Hot Pink Sparkle) charmed my socks off. This collection uses patented Pink Hybrid Pigment technology, ensuring the pure, authentic pink hues.

PinkCollection_shu.jpg

Ditto for the Rouge Unlimited in PK359 Sheer Electric Pink. These colors are really beautiful. Conventional pinks were traditionally created mixing red and white shades, but the shu uemura team came up with a matrix of a mineral core and organic shell. This means the colors are brighter, providing high color fidelity. You just have to try it to see the difference. They are not garish and will work on all skin tones.

PINK_collection_shuuemuraA4.jpg

I paired both of these lip colors with the new Cream Eye Shadow in P Light Green. It was the perfect and easy Spring look for me. These cream shadows come in 9 non-creasing/non-fading and buildable shades (matte and pearl), and they're waterproof for summer! Yay. You can wear alone or layer with their pressed eye shadows.
shu_uemura_creamshadows.jpg

In their skin care department, the new White Recovery EX Instant Spot Brightener does double duty as both makeup highlighter and well, spot brightener. You can get instant dewy skin by dabbing a bit on the nose bridge and cheekbones. Use it alone or over makeup (blend gently). Reducing melanin content by 56% (thank you Sakura Leaf and Prune extracts), this has optical brightening effects and will minimize the appearance of brown spots and acne scars immediately and over time. The convenient brush applicator makes it easy to dab it right you need it. This can last 2-3 months, as a little goes a long way. You can even use it for dark circles!

Emilio Pucci Vivara Variazioni

For those who liked Emilio Pucci's original Vivara perfume, the new Vivara Variazioni collection should be a nice addition with some twists. An ode to the Vivara Island, the trio starts off with Sabbia 167, a powdery floral. Tangerine, lemon, Florentine iris, and sandalwood characterize this one. Acqua 330 resembles the coolness of water. Violet lead, jasmine, frangipani, and musk evoke a freshn voyage to the heart of the Mediterranean.

Emilio_Pucci_perfumes.jpg

I liked the Sole 149. An aromatic floral, it aims to recreate the elements of a sun-dappled island. The galbanum channels the original Vivara; this one has notes of tomato leaf, sambac-jasmine, vetiver, and patchouli. I like how vetiver and patchouli warms up the florals.

Lutz & Patmos Jane Birkin Collection

SF weather can be super cold and windy even in the Spring and Summer seasons, so imagine my delight to come upon the new Lutz & Patmos Spring 2009 collection. Teaming up with style icon and guest designer Jane Birkin, they created two ultra soft and flattering basic tops (made with 100% organic Scottish cashmere).

jane_birkin.jpg
Jane Birkin for Lutz & Patmos - wearing her V-Neck sweater and Tank.

Layer the Jane Birkin Tank with the V-Neck sweater for that casual, sexy look. The deep V-Neck is raw edged with a slouchy fit and 3/4 sleeves, while the tank scoopneck has a delicate hand crochet finish at the neckline and armhole. Both styles come in black, grey heather, and mocha heather. The company will also continue collaborating with Birkin for Fall 2009.

I also want the Organic Flounced Dress - so elegant! It looks deceptively simple but I know it will be very flattering for most body types. It's the perfect black dress with a green agenda.

DL1961 Premium Denim

DL1961 is now one of my favorite stretch denim companies. The first in using the incredible XFit Lycra technology, your jeans won't sag, stretch out, or get baggy. The fabric has 90% less pressure strain at stress points (knees, inseam, and back rise areas), meaning it won't get worn down as easily. The denim moves 360 degrees for maximum shape, style despite multiple wears.

DL1961_MILANO_1O93B.jpg
Milano 1093 Bootcut

Hugging your curves comfortably, these sexy jeans will also shape up the derriere and legs. The four-way stretch fabric in the Milano Bootcut made me look like I've lost a couple pounds, or gotten a mini butt lift. It's that flattering. The slimming effects are evident upon wearing it. So ladies, if you were too afraid to try the skinny or straight cut, this will give you hope. The men will notice the difference, I kid you not.

Tory1098_straight.jpg
Tory 1098 Straight Leg

The 27% lycra content makes this line super comfy, it's almost like wearing yoga pants. I don't recommend working out in these but it's thin and soft enough to lounge around in if you want. I might have to try it out on the dance floor for the ultimate stretch test. And, they use an enzyme wash (using a protein that softens the fabric) for that worn in look. I wonder if the traditional stone wash beats up the fabric too much in the process?

They will launch an organic line next month, so stay tuned. I'll update you on the new styles and washes.

I totally heart these guys. Keep up the fabulous work!

Larkspur & Hawk

It seems like my list of things to covet is never-ending. Now I have to add Larkspur & Hawk's Small Anne Day/Night Earrings to the list. Inspired by a Queen Anne earring design, these gorgeous earrings are made of faceted white topaz stones, then backed with leaf foil in a 14k gold setting. The drops are removable for a day look, and you can wear them for an evening look. (Also available in white topaz with indigo foil; citrine with fuchsia foil; white topaz with scarlet foil)

larkspur_hawk_green_earrings.jpganne_earrings2.jpg

And how fantastic is this antique Chrysolite Cluster Ring (circa 1780)?? Wow. I so am drooling over this. Très élégante. Chrysolite was mined in Brazil in the 18th century and the popular stones are still sought after in modern times. I dunno about you, but I'd take this over any regular diamond ring. I just love color that dazzles the eye.

larkspurhawk_chrysolite_ring.jpg

The Grace Earrings are another favorite of mine...simply stunning. You can get this in rose quartz with indigo foil or green amethyst and leaf foil.

Today is International Women's Day, and it reminds us all that we have a long road ahead in ending sexual slavery across the world. FIEL shoes

I can't get enough of FIEL. These comfy and elegant flip flops are made for traipsing around white sandy beaches. So dainty and feminine, I can see myself getting a bunch of these for trips to Koh Samui or to Rio.

FIEL_palawan_gold.jpg
Palawan in gold

Made in Brazil, these flip flops come in three styles. The Palawan is adorned with a gorgeous leather flower (in black, gold, and pewter). You can adjust the flexible petals (with wire backing) to your liking. Each flip flop also contains a real lab-grown sapphire! This is taking eco-glam to the next level.

FIEL_purple_sula.jpg

I also love the Sula style. Bring out your inner Roman goddess with the long straps, or transform yourself into a ballerina. The memory foam insole will add more comfort as you spend all day playing outside.

Style Inspiration from Oscars Screen Sirens

The excitement may be over from this year's Oscars, but the styles from the lovely celebs will stay in our minds for a long time. Here's a few of our faves:

Vive La France! Marion Cotillard has always been a favorite of mine, even before she got internationally recognized for "La Vie En Rose." She totally nailed it with elegant drama without going over the top with Dior. Stunning, deceptively simple, yet classy - everything I adore about French couture. Oh, how I love her and her style.

marion-cotillard.jpg

Here's what Stevie, of LA-Story.com had to say about Cotillard's ensemble: I find this outfit intriguing. I wasn't hot for it right off-- but then when I took a good look at the entire ensemble, what's not to like? . The deep color is so very flattering for her and the shape of the dress creates a very retro-glam 1950's glamour that's dramatic and works for her. Unlike others who went strapless, , she wore a necklace which creates interest and leads the eye to Cotillard's face. Love the ring she has on -- it's stunning!

Penelope Cruz was totally channeling Audrey Helpburn in this Balmain vintage outfit. It was sweetly romantic and charming without overdoing it like Sarah Jessica Parker. Love it. White is not my favorite color (and some though it was too princess bride) but she pulled it off nicely a la Roman Holiday.
penelope-cruz.jpg

Stevie: I like the essence of the dress. It's much like the black one she wore at the BAFTAS and while it works a la Audrey Hepburn, the lack of color just drains the life out of her. Make this red, deep rose, burgundy, deep forest green, any range of blue hues and this would be a smashing dress. Penelope, I think you got just a bit tired towards the end. The bag doesn't work with the dress. If you are going to pull off that dress, then carry a vintage style bag too.

Nicole Kidman had the classic, ethereal, 'very Nicole' style in L'Wren Scott. She looked very retro-glam in this one, and I approve heartily. It's like a beautiful ice goddess came down upon earth to bestow her beauty for us to enjoy...

nicole-kidman-2009.jpg

Here's Stevie's take: Gorgeous dress with unique detailing at the bodice. It's really eye-catching. Would have loved to have seen it created in a different, richer color as this almost matches Kidman's skin tone. Her hairstyle is amazing and opens up her neckline which made it an ideal opportunity to wear a fabulous-- yet delicate-- necklace to work with those earrings and either a ring or a couple of sleek thin bangle bracelets.

Taraji P. Henson was also sporting the sweet and innocent feel with her choice of Roberto Cavalli. I like the simple chic in this one. Good move overall, even if it's a bit too bridal looking.
taraji-p-henson.jpg

Gorgeous dress on Taraji. I think she was truly one of the best dressed with an edgy design that flattered her body and made her truly a star on the red carpet. The color was perfect with her skintone!
Stevie, LA-Story.com

Leslie Mann had an incredible hot-mama Pamela Roland gown on. Smokin' diva! I hope to be this hottie hot when I get to her age...it draped on her body so nicely without baring too much flesh.
leslie-mann.jpg

Stevie says: Pamela Roland should be so happy to have this dress on Leslie Mann and vice versa. It's stunning on Mann because the design skims her body perfectly. The dress is killer, smokin', sexy-hot and without showing off a lot of skin either. No mean feat that.

I wish everyone had made the right choices. I really love Beyonce, but man, this House of Deréon dress made
her look like a cartoon character. I dig her lovely curves but this matronly design exaggerated the hips which is not what we want. The severe bustline is not flattering to her voluptuous figure.
beyonce.jpg

Stevie's take: Typically Beyonce "wows" you on the red carpet, but this dress makes a statement in all the wrong ways: too big on the hips, the retro-hemline, the overwhelming pattern, the top makes her look like a Barbie doll or Jessica Rabbit (my apologies to Jessica Rabbit for the comparison). This dress should teach Beyonce that you should not dump the kitchen sink of design elements into one dress. Plus what's with the lack of jewelry?

Vouelle

I'm madly in love with Vouelle, the new French luxury shoe label. The brand recently launched their bridal collection last Fall in Paris (too lovely for words), and the Spring 2009 women's cocktail collection will take the fashion world by storm. Adorned with exotic feathers, Swarovski crystals, and silk satin, these sexy and elegant shoes make me want to hop on the next plane to Paris and raid their showroom. One look at the flirty and feminine Andy shoe (silk satin with handmade satin flower) and you'll know what I mean.

vouelle_Andy.jpg
Vouelle's Andy cocktail sandal

Co-founder Melissa Regan de Vogele was having a tough time finding her dream bridal slippers, so she tapped her friend and Creative Director Michelle Boor to come up with some ideas. Soon enough, Vouelle was born. It also helped that Boor earned her design chops from Guy Laroche and Theory.

Grace_Black.jpg
Grace pump in handmade black silk lace

I also love the darling Carla with a sculptural black organza loop and beige feathers (named after Carla Bruni perhaps?). So very vintage inspired, so very sexy...this is so perfect for any vintage Dior suit or YSL dress.
vouelle_Carla.jpg

The seductive Dana is very come-hither with its feathers fanning out the pump’s side seam. The Eva, however, is the showstopper must-have for any femme fatale's collection.

If you're in Paris, lucky you. The bridal collection can be found at Galleries Lafayette and Printemps. For those who live outside France, not to worry. You can order the Spring 2009 Cocktail Collection directly with their Paris showroom (they do ship and accept all major credit cards). They plan to retail their Fall 2009 collection in the U.S. soon, so stay tuned!

Armani's new Onde fragrance collection is nothing short of dazzling. Inspired by the exotic journeys to the East, each of the three perfumes (Vertige, Mystere, and Extase) are encased in beautiful vintage-inspired bottles and colored silk tassels. They're so pretty you want to collect them all.
    ad__armani_ondes.jpg

Vertige has a very floral feel. It consists of the lush frangipani flower, with splashes of jasmine. Black liquorice and patchouli help round it out, sending us on a whirlwind tour of the Kama Sutra. The bottle is designed after the temples of India.

Representing Japan, Extase is all about the powdery mimosa, Egyptian jasmine, and narcissus. This is the sweetest fragrance out of the group, but it's very likable. Really flowery scents usually aren't my thing, but the pink pepper, Sicilian Bergamot, and cedar balanced it out.

    onde_armani.jpg

Mystere is my favorite of the trio. Starting out spicy and rather bold, the incense and amber go surprisingly soft towards the end of the first sniff. Moroccan Rose and vanilla takes the edge off this sumptuous scent. This one takes us through a sensual trip to the Middle East. I really like this- it will definitely seduce the boys.

The ONDE Collection is available beginning in February exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue and online at www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com

    Recchiuti Valentine Treats

Love it or hate it, we all like to have some gourmet chocolate on Valentine's Day. Recchiuti Confections has lots of gift ideas in all budget ranges, such as the Extra-Bitter Chocolate Sundae Kit. It includes one jar of the popular Extra-bitter Chocolate Sauce, along with three awesome Fudge Brownies. It's pretty hard to resist this package. I was planning to make a sundae, but ended up noshing on the decadent brownies instead. Oops. Then I just spooned the chocolate sauce straight from the jar. I so need to jog.

    sundae_kit_recchiuti.jpg

Available only once a year, the classic Champagne Truffles are always a fave. With the timeless combo of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs bubbly and intense dark chocolate, it's the most sophisticated way to say 'I love you.' These truffles have the best champagne flavor, not to mention the smoothest that I've had in a long time.

    recchiuti_champagne.jpg

If you're looking to go all out, the Platinum Collection will do the trick. With 88 pieces of gourmet goodness, it's also 88 ways to show him or her how much you adore them. Some great flavors include: Honeycomb Malt, Cardamom Nougat, Cassis Strata, Burnt Caramel, Lavender Vanilla, Spring Jasmine Tea, Star Anise & Pink Peppercorn, Ginger Heart, Sesame Nougat, Rose Caramel, Bergamot Tea, and Piedmont Hazelnut.

    Vosges for V-day

You never need an excuse to indulge in Vosges Haut Chocolat, but for the Valentine gifting folks out there, there's the new Organic Exotic Candy Bar Library to try. The box includes a Dominica Noir (74% -one of the darkest I've tried from them), a Dominica Lait (using Criollo beans!), an Enchanted Mushroom & one Peanut Butter Bonbon Bar.

I love the peanut butter bar...the mushroom bar is made with Reishi mushrooms, a superfood used in Chinese medicine. I feel healthier already, hehe. I also liked the salty-sweet crunch of the milk Habana bar (w/Ecuadorian plantain chips). It will be a crucial tool for that certain time of the month, that's for sure.

    vosges_Mushroom.jpg

For a slightly fancier gift idea, the Exotic Truffle Collection Heart Box is a good one. It contains their signature truffle collection, which will make anyone happy.

    Round Pond

Round Pond's hand-harvested olive oils are so rich in flavor. The award-winning family mill offers four fantastic varietals, and each one is unique. The Italian varietal is a robust blend of five Italian varietals (Leccino, Pendolino, Maurino, Frantoio and Coratina). Its bright green notes of green tomatoes, grass, and black pepper makes it ideal for cooking, dipping and salads. Harvested from 100-year-old Spanish trees, the slightly lighter Spanish Varietal is ideal for baking and sautéing.

    round_pond_oils.jpg

Buttery and spicy, the popular (sold out each year) and aromatic Blood Orange Olive Oil is made from the sweet juice and rind oils of fresh blood oranges. You can use it in sauces and marinades, but it's so beautiful I just like to dip with it to enjoy the pure flavor. The Meyer Lemon oil is just as nice, blending organic Meyer lemons with the finest Frantoio and Coratina olives. Highly fragrant, it leaves a velvety finish and crisp taste. These are all outstanding oils, but the Meyer Lemon is my fave.

    roundpond_vinegars2.jpg

Using estate-grown grapes, their two red-wine vinegars are made from the 200-year-old Orleans technique. I haven't had such robust vinegars in a while, and they match their oils nicely. They're aged ten months in French oak barrels, and bottled in individual lots. The Sangiovese, Nebbiolo & Petit Verdot blend packs a punch, while the nuanced Cabernet & Merlot has a dry, dark fruit finish.

If you're in the area, try to catch their Saturday tasting tours and lunch, then head over to their winery for some more tasting!

Giorgio Armani Spring 09 Pink Light

Giorgio Armani Spring 2009 Pink Light collection has a limited edition eye shadow palette that will create luminous and fresh eyes. Embossed with Mr. Armani’s signature, the palette includes a shimmering silver, light lilac, light rose, and light beige for that rosy look.

    armani_Spring_2009.jpg

The new Light Master Make-up Primer does wonders for highlighting the skin. Optical effects are created from Micro-fil™ pearl, which changes skin tone (depending on light reflection). This will illuminate and shape cheekbones and contours of the face while toning down uneven zones. It's very light (like their face fabrics) and I sure glowed like a radiant flower after a light application. You don't need a lot at all, just a light pump will do. If you already have great skin, you might not need foundation.

    armani_pink_eyeshadow.jpg

The collection also includes a Pink Light Powder, a rose shimmering loose powder for a soft pink veil of color. Two new compacts of the Blending Blush Duo (n°3 and n°4) come in coral/mocha or rosewood/raspberry. They've also introduced the new Sheer and Shine lipstick in the Shine 47 – nude taupe, Shine 49 - fig, and Sheer 33, a rose coral.

    Guerlain Exotic Paradise Spring 2009

Guerlain's Spring 2009 Exotic Paradise is filled with lush, exotic color. Welcoming the triumph of springtime bliss, the palette is lively and charming. It is nice to see this visage of renewal.

    guerlain_spring09.jpg

The Ombre Eclat Four Shade Eyeshadow compact has a lovely etching of delicate plants and a slender bird of paradise. Opening it will reveal a burst of joyful color in four shades: pink, orange, green, and brown. The KissKiss Gloss in Pomme du Desir #806 is a gorgeous lime green sparkler. Use it alone or with a neutral lip pencil to bring out your lip shape. With luck, you might be able to pull of Angelina Jolie lips!

The Ombre Eclat single eye shadows are packaged in a luxurious compact. With 3.6 grams of product, this is the largest single-eyeshadow on the market. Lia Lintern

Lia Lintern has the most darling custom outerwear. A former aerospace engineer, designer Julia Lintern applies her structural sensibility to her luxurious coats. Instead of sizes S, M, and L, you can enter your bust, waist, and hip measurements for the most flattering fit.

I just LOVE the Yuliya coat. It's so retro in design theory, but modern in its cut. This cashmere corset coat is so feminine in the silhouette, but has a fresh twist in the stretch leather sleeves and side belt closure. It's also lined in silk for that extra divine accent.

    Kenwood Inn & Spa

The Kenwood Inn & Spa made me feel like I was living in a Tuscan villa. Well, it's the closest thing in the Bay Area/Wine Country. I was very lucky to have the chance to spend a weekend in this tranquil paradise, and the luxe accommodations are worth every penny.

    kenwood_inn_courtyard.JPG
    (Credit:Tom Barwick)

There are plenty of reasons why they've been recently named the top resort in the US by Condé Nast Traveler. Each of the 29 rooms and suites have private entrances, and the secluded 2.5 acres are so beautifully landscaped. Each nook and cranny was abundantly draped in ivy, plants, and flowers. The courtyards, pool, gardens, jacuzzis were gorgeous.
    kenwood_inn_Wheel_house.JPG
    (Credit:Tom Barwick)

I could have stayed inside my suite all day, and that's what I did (It was cold and raining anyway). It was so big I can waltz around the entire room. Mine had a jacuzzi tub, fireplace (a real one!), and the most comfy featherbed on earth. I couldn't seem to get up in the morning from the deep slumber.
    guest%20room_kenwood_inn.JPG
    (Credit:Tom Barwick)

The gracious staff really went above and beyond, catering to my every need. The private restaurant is only open to guests, where Italian chef Renzo Veronese spoils you with fresh house-made pasta and other delectable entrees. I totally loved my Ravioli di Vitello alla Aurora (roasted veal in tomato cream sauce). The Sogliola alla Dorata (Petrale sole with lemon, white wine, and butter) was also really delicious. It was the best Petrale I've had in recent memory.
    kenwood_inn_pasta.JPG

Don't forget to book a spa treatment when you visit. The award-winning spa offers luxurious body facials that feature Arcona, the LA-based skin care line used by celebrities (Diane Lane, Katherine Heigl, etc.). I tried the awesome Organic Enzyme facial, and my face looked so much better when I was done. The fruit enzymes totally buffed off the dull visage.
    kenwood_spa.jpg

All in all, this is the ultimate romantic getaway. A definite must-go for you and your sweetheart on your next anniversary, honeymoon, or special occasion.

    Tiny Bubbles

Kate Simon has plenty of ideas on using Champagne and other sparkling wines to create gorgeous cocktails in her Tiny Bubbles. Timeless drinks are tweaked to feature natural fruit juices, fresh herbs, and other liquors. Classics like Kir Royale (one of my faves) are turned into new bubbly blends.
    Tiny_Bubbles.jpg

Popular sparklers like Italy's Prosecco, Spain's Cava, Japan's sparkling sake, and Australia's sparkling reds are also utilized in the book. I really applaud the fact that Simon included mocktail recipes for those who don't want the buzz (Hello, Fauxllini!). There's also recipes for nibbling with the drinks, such as Easy Champagne Chocolate Truffles or the Fizzy Melon Soup. Who knew Champagne can be so fun?

Check out this cocktail recipe below. It looks so pretty...

    Stratosphere

The sweet Muscat and acidic berry notes of Italy’s Moscato d’Asti are lovely with the delicate, floral violet liqueur in this adaptation of a recipe from Lucius Beebe’s 1946 classic, The Stork Club Bar Book. It was served at the Stork Club in New York. The original recipe called for Champagne.

    Stratosphere_cocktail.jpg

    2 whole cloves
    3/4 ounce crème de violette
5 ounces Moscato d’Asti, chilled (alternatives: Asti, Prosecco extra dry, Champagne extra dry)
    Lemon twist for garnish

Place cloves in a chilled 6-ounce sparkling-wine glass. Add crème de violette. Top slowly with chilled bubbly. Stir gently. Garnish with short strip of lemon peel, first twisting it over the glass to release the flavorful oils into the drink.

Yves St. Laurent Retrospective at de Young

Fashion lovers need to glide over to the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective at the de Young Museum. Even if you're not in the area I'd suggest a haute couture pilgrimmage to SF. Spanning 40 years (1962 to 2002), the 125+ couture ensembles from the visionary master will knock the Louboutins off any fashionista.

    ysl_gown_1970.jpg

The dazzling exhibit is quite comprehensive - be prepared to return for a second or third viewing. There are sketches, videos, accessories, and even Lesage embroidery on display. Some pieces evoked the spirit of Chanel, while others were inspired by nature and art (Mondrian, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, etc.)

With iconic muses like Nan Kempner (SF native, naturally) and Catherine Deneuve for inspiration, Saint Laurent also had a vast interest in foreign culture. Along with inventing a female version of the tuxedo (le smoking), pea coat, pantsuit, and safari jacket, he had collections that drew heavily from the African, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese cultures.

Aside from his sheer genius, the main thing that touched me is that Saint Laurent was such a romantic poet. He really is a true artist. His extremely sensitive soul, coupled with his lonely imagination, has resulted in one of the most inimitable, prolific, and revered careers in haute couture.

    shu uemura Mika Holiday

The Mika holiday collection for shu uemura is splashy with bright hues and floral themes. Partnering with renowned Japanese photographer and director Mika Ninagawa, it's filled with feminine vitality and a reflection of her signature vivid colors.

    shu%20mika%20holiday%2008.jpg

Sophisticated yet decidedly Japanese pop, it's Ninagawa's ode to beauty. Definitely kawaii. I adore the Secret Luscious Rose eye shadow palette. It comes with seven pressed eye shadows and a cream liner/shadow. For the more adventurous, try the Adorned Marguerite palette.

    mika%20luscious%20rose.jpg

Thinking of holiday gifts for your beauty buddies? I'd get the Mini Gloss Trio set in Delicous Rose. Three mini-sized Gloss Unlimited lip glosses (Candy Orange, Candy Pink, and Red) come in a portable cosmetic pouch decorated with Mika Ninagawa's photograph.

    mika%20shu%20gloss%20set.jpg

As a lash lover, I'm putting these Slant Purple false lashes on my personal wish list.

    shu%20uemura%20holiday08%20lashes.jpg

On a related note, I got the rare opportunity to meet Artistic Director Gina Brooke at a recent master class in SF, and here are a few beauty tips from Madonna's makeup artist:

    gina%20brooke%20shu.jpg

-There's a big emphasis on skin care, so Gina's all-time favorites for creating a clean facial canvas are their famous Cleansing Oils (she convinced Madonna to use it, and it's also great for shaving and moisturizing cuticles!) and the Depsea Water Facial Mist. She also loves the Depsea Moisture Replenishing Masks for blemishes and dry skin.

-Her favorite holiday lip color is a bright red (Rouge Unlimited in RD 165 and Drawing Lip Pencil in Red 192).

-For an ultra easy day to night look, apply the daytime colors in a stronger build up. Instant night drama!

-Lash application is totally fool-proof with the False Eyelash Applicator. Hold the lash on the outer edge with the applicator. Bring the inner edge of the lash down to your inner lash line with your finger. Using the applicator, bring it across the lash line to the outer edge. Voila! Perfectly applied lashes!

    Amedei For You

I'm having a gourmet chocolate heart attack. Amedei is finally launching their US website today, and I'm overly excited by the news. I can finally buy all of their special products that were previously difficult to attain in the local markets.

I'm gonna spend the holidays baking up a storm with their new 'Amedei For You' line. Aimed for the home baker, their Gocce chocolate chips (comes in milk, dark, and white) are so decadent you can munch on them as a snack while you make your fancy chocolate souffle. If you haven't inhaled the entire package at that point, you can also use them for fancy cookies, cakes, ice cream, etc. The elegant reusable canisters contain several recipes too.

    amedei%20gocce.jpeg

The caramel notes of the milk chips remind me of their 32% milk bar. The white ones are just beautiful - the high vanilla aroma is gorgeous. The dark chips are a perfect 65% cacao blend with a balanced flavor. It's a guaranteed hit if you bake with these chips.

I can't wait to try the hot chocolate mix. You only have to add milk. It's supposed to melt so quickly that you don't have to spend the 3 extra long minutes whisking it.

The Crema Toscana is just plain amazing. Containing only Piedmont hazelnuts, milk, sugar, cocoa paste, and vanilla, it's a heavenly feel inside your mouth. It's such an intense hazelnut flavor! Bravo to the Tessieri duo for not using any vegetable fats or soy lecithin. Move over, Nutella. This might take the world by storm.

    amedei%20crema%20toscana.jpeg

Here's a recipe to try with the white chocolate chips. It's in grams, so you need to do a bit of math to convert to ounces...

Amedei White Chocolate and Pistachio Tiramisu

    Serves 8

    100 grams shelled pistachios
125 grams AMEDEI FOR YOU white chocolate
    500 grams mascarpone
    150 grams sugar
    5 egg yolks
    3 egg whites
    200 grams ladyfingers
    250 grams milk
    pinch of salt
    finely chopped chocolate shavings

    1. Preheat oven to 170°C. Toast the pistachios for approx. 7-8 minutes, then let them
    cool.
    2. Grind the pistachios to obtain a smooth, creamy paste. Set it aside.
    3. Use an electric mixer to whisk egg yolks and 130 g of sugar until light and
    frothy.
    4. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until stiff with 20 g of sugar and a pinch of salt. Delicately fold in the mascarpone and pistachio paste into the egg yolk mixture. Follow with beaten egg whites.
    5. Soak the ladyfingers in milk. Spread a fine layer of the cream mixture on each individual mould/bowl and add a soaked sponge finger. Form another layer of cream mixture and sprinkle with the finely chopped chocolate. Continue forming layers in this way until the cream mixture is used up.
    6. Dust the final layer of cream mixture with finely ground chocolate; leave in the fridge for at least three hours before serving.

    NARS Holiday 2008

NARS has some sparkly goodies for holiday colors. The Silent Night (metallic gold) and Night Life (metallic silver) single eye shadows will make things really festive.

    nars%20holiday%20face08.jpg

Their beautiful shimmering particles remind me of Night Snow and Night Rider from last year's holiday collection. I can't wait to try these at the next holiday soirée. They totally turn your eyes into starry jewels.

    holiday08%20nars%20silent%20night.jpg

    holiday08_nars.jpg

For purple lovers, the bold Jolie Poupee eye shadow duo is a bright violet and a deep pearly purple. Cult fans of the Orgasm blush will love the Super Orgasm. It is a darker pigment with a golden iridescent finish. It's very buildable and has a better color payoff over the original, in my humble opinion.

    super%20orgasm.jpg

To let the eyes shine, the lips are more neutral. The Canaille lipstick is a shimmery mahogany, and the super glossy All Night Long lip gloss is a nice sheer berry. To top it all off, the Orgasm nail polish is a feminine peachy pink with a gold shimmer.

    Armani Beauty Fall 2008

Giorgio Armani Beauty has some awesome fall items, and here are a few highlights:

    lip%20wax%20armani.jpg

For a casual pout, the Lip Wax is a modern satiny blush for lips. A combination of a gloss and a lipstick, this super smooth and silky wax is so light I can hardly feel it. Just dab it on and off you go. No need for lip liner, but feel free to add some gloss to make it pop. The beauty of this line is that you can mix and layer to your liking. I like shades 3 (Sienna) and 4 (Raspberry).

    LIP_WAX.jpg

From the Python Collection, the Blending Blush Duo palettes have a creamy texture to create a soft and subtle highlighting.

    armani%20blush%20duo.jpg

The Maestro Eye Shadow Quads are inspired by the rich colors of the Italian coast. These range from matte greys and navy to sumptuous lilac and gold. The new formula contains light Micro-fil™ silk so it literally melts into the skin for layering ease and comfort. Pigments are intensified and it has improved crease-proof adherence. The Desert palette # 5 features a pretty rose, earth brown, burnt beige, and pale sand; the Mineral # 6 has amethyst, grey obsidian, rose quartz, and beige opal.

    armani%20maestro%20eye%20quad.jpg

With cooler weather upon us, the Crema Nera cream is a wonderful option for dry skin. The obsidian mineral (extracted from the petrified lava on Pantelleria, Italy) formula has cell regenerating properties to revitalize the skin's natural radiance. It's a bit rich, so use a tiny bit and build up if you need more.

    armani%20crema%20nera.jpg

Finally, if you haven't tried the fantastic Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup, you're totally missing out. The nine shades are more like tinted moisturizers, and can be combined together to customize your look. It's like you're not wearing any makeup - it literally blends into the skin. I don't wear much foundation so this is a nice basic look for me to polish up; no caked up texture here!

    Meet shu uemura's Gina Brooke!

I'm really excited to be meeting shu uemura Artistic Director Gina Brooke at the Nov. 1 Atelier Artist event. Beauty junkies should really attend this master class. In this exclusive in-store appearance, Gina will share her celebrity makeup tips and tricks of the trade (she's worked on Madonna, Eva Longoria, Naomi Campbell, Giselle Bundchen, Cindy Crawford, and David Beckham).

This is a great opportunity to learn fabulous makeup techniques for holiday parties! To get an idea on how wonderful this event will be, check out her tips on getting Madonna's Stick and Sweet concert tour look:

    gina%20brooke.jpg

    STEP 1: Prepare the face
“Beautiful makeup starts with skin.” Prep eyes with the DEPSEA MOISTURE REPLENISHING EYE MASK (to calm puffiness and hydrate). Apply PHYTO BLACK LIFT FIRMING ANTI-WRINKLE CREAM on the whole face. Lastly, apply FACE ARCHITECT REMODELING CREAM FOUNDATION beginning at the arch of your brow down to the middle of your eye, directly onto the middle of the cheekbone. Each time the sun reflects off your skin, it will create the illusion of glowing, dewy, healthy, radiant skin!

    STEP 2: Prime the eyelids
Using a KOLINSKY BRUSH 11, apply PRESSED EYE SHADOW in M BEIGE 800 above the eyelids. Blend PRESSED EYE SHADOW IN ME BLACK 990 onto eyelids. Then, use COVER CRAYON in 9YR LIGHT in the inner corner and water line of the eyes to make them appear larger. Madonna is known for her liquid black eyeliner, so for this look, she wears it very dramatically. I apply LIQUID EYELINER at the top and bottom of the eyes as well as on the lid, drawing small lines, almost like scratches, that create an optical illusion of a blackout when blended into the ME BLACK 990 eye shadow. It’s all about the eyes!

    Madonna%20shu%20uemura%20chart.jpg

    STEP 3: Prep the lashes
Use the EYELASH CURLER before applying ULTIMATE EXPRESSION MASCARA beginning at the base and rolling the brush through the tips of lashes. Now here’s the trick to make eyes pop – interweave two pairs of FALSE EYELASHES S217 to create an atmosphere of black around the eye.

STEP 4: Finish off with the lips
Since the focus is on the eyes, use ROUGE UNLIMITED in BG 949 layered with GLOSS UNLIMITED in BG 930N for a soft, natural look.

    Bols Genever

The predecessor to gin, Bols Genever is the classic white spirit for cocktails. Inspired by the original 1820 recipe, it is touted as the world’s most authentic spirit. Containing 50% maltwine, it has a very rich and smooth flavor. In its modern re-birth, this was actually awarded the AOC status (Appellation d’Origine Controllée), and that's pretty impressive in my book.

    Bols%20Genever%20bottle.jpg

An essential cocktail ingredient for nearly two centuries, Genever was featured in the Jerry Thomas's “The Bartender’s Guide” (world’s first cocktail book). I adore the artisan care of the brand's font design - it's an authentic Amsterdam handwritten typography. The smoked glass bottle is also very elegant.

    Try the following recipes:

    The Holland House

    Glass: A small pre-chilled martini-cocktail glass.

    Ingredients:

    1¾ shots of Bols Genever
¾ shot of Noilly Prat dry vermouth
½ shot of freshly squeezed lemon juice
    ¼ shot of maraschino liqueur

Technique: Shake the ingredients with large, hard, cold ice cubes and double-strain into the glass.

Garnish: Spray and rim a zest of lemon.

(This strong, dry, complex cocktail was the signature drink of the Holland House, once one of New York’s finest cocktail bars.)

    HOLLAND%20HOUSE.jpg

    The Collins

Glass: A large long-drink (Collins) glass.

    Ingredients:

    2 shots of Bols Genever
1 shot of freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ shot of rich sugar syrup (2 parts sugar: 1 part water)
    soda water.

Technique: Shake the Bols Genever, lemon juice and sugar syrup with large, hard, cold ice cubes, double-strain into an ice-filled Collins glass and top with soda water.

Garnish: A lemon wedge, dropped in but not squeezed.

(The original Collins was made with genever, not gin; genever brings a pleasant depth and slight fruitiness to the Collins.)

    Givenchy Beauty Fall 08

The Pocket Beauty Case from Givenchy's Fall 2008 collection is a must have. The limited-edition item is a natural pink baume encased in a men's pocket watch, making for a very cool accessory (clip on pants or purse). Used for the lips and cheeks, the very sheer color is great for that delicate flush whenever you need it. It can be built upon as a day to evening look, depending on how much you apply. It can even be added to the chest/shoulders for a radiant glow. How's that for multi-purpose? Gotta love it.

    Giorgio Armani Bronze Mania 2008

Armani's Bronze Mania 2008 Ochra collection is a gorgeous homage to the sunny island of Pantelleria. One of the highlights is the Ochra Mediterranean Palette, a beautiful eye shadow and bronzer palette that is perfect for a beach getaway or a night on the yacht. The eye shadows quartet feature warm shimmery gold and earthy brown shades, while the bronzer is super sheer and natural.

    armani%20bronze_mania%202008.jpg

For the sun goddesses out there, the Bronze Mania Skin Tints are a long-lasting and natural way to build up color. Water soluble and sheer, you can blend two shades together, or wear them alone. The shades range from a subtle barely there look to a deep Mediterranean tan.

    armani%20ochre%20palette.jpg

I really dug the sparkly Lip Shimmer Bronze glosses. the pretty shades are quite sexy - my favorites are #52, a pearly brown ochre, and #53, a muted brown ochre.

    Eminence Coco-Luscious Collection

The Eminence Coco-luscious Collection is like a walk through an island paradise. This summer, indulge in an array of luxurious and mouth-watering tropical goodies from this venerable organic line. Pamper yourself from head to toe with fragrant mangoes, coconut, watermelon, and pineapple!

For dreamy-lookin' skin, the gentle Coconut Milk Cleanser is a lovely hydrator. The rich coconut milk is really nurturing, soothing dry and irritated skin. (And, if get the summer breakouts, the Herbal Spot Serum is a great way to zap the annoying blemishes!)

Oh, my....the Coconut Cream Masque is so decadent. Like most Eminence products, I am tempted to try it just to see if it tastes as delicious as it smells. Ripe with nutrients, this healing and firming masque is pretty concentrated, so just apply a thin layer while you're relaxing by the pool, as you sip a fruity cocktail.

    eminence%20Tropical.jpg

The Mango Night Cream is so very delicious. It's like having a tropical creamsicle. The potent mango, coconut, shea butter puree nourishes and repairs while marine algae protects the dermal layers. For a night cream, it doesn't feel too thick or rich; you can also dilute it with a couple drops of water.

For an all-body experience, the Coconut Sugar Scrub will buff you into a smooth and fruity bon bon. The Watermelon Papaya Body Butter is equally nice. Despite the coconut oil, it absorbs right away with no residue - great for the sweltering summer heat.

Don't forget to book an appointment with your nearest spa featuring this great line. Try the Mango Enzyme Body Wrap or get the gentle Pineapple Enzyme Pro Peel. Both treatments contain powerful enzymes to exfoliate out the dry patches and to lighten hyperpigmented areas. Your gorgeous skin will then be ready for bikini season!

    Shu Uemura 25th Anniversary Hana-Bi

A pioneer in the international beauty realm, Shu Uemura was more than just an artist. His visionary methods changed the way we thought about makeup art, opening up a new world that successfully blended art, beauty, fashion, science, and nature into each product. From the iconic eyelash curler to the wildly popular cleansing oils (and don't forget those gorgeous lashes and stellar makeup brushes!), there is so much to be remembered from this prolific and legendary master.

    shu%20umeura%20lashes.jpg

As a young man, Uemura knew he wanted to create beauty. As the only male student at the Tokyo Beauty Academy, he soon rose above other aspiring artists by being chosen to work on Joe Butterfly in 1955, and soon became the darling amongst Hollywood's elite. Uemura elevated beauty to an art form, and stars like Shirley MacLaine and Frank Sinatra were loyal fans.

Uemura's meteoric rise continued to shine. He returned to Japan in 1965 and established the Shu Uemura Make-up Institute, the first Hollywood-style makeup studio in Japan. In 1968, he launched the first Mode Make-up look (the revolutionary concept of using makeup design as an artistic expression) and became the beauty industry's big sensation. Subsequently he created an in-house line of skincare, and opened his first Beauty Boutique in 1983. Today, the Shu Uemura art has expanded to Paris, London, Milan, Taipei, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco.

    shu%20uemura.jpg

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first Tokyo Beauty Boutique opening, this year's special HANA-BI limited edition collection features the dynamic shape of fireworks in the artwork. Designed by noted graphic designer Gwenael Nicolas, the fireworks are a burst of spontaneous beauty that represents this special occasion.

    shu%20uemura%20anniversary%20palette.jpg

Inspired by three elements of nature (earth, flower, and water), the collection features brilliant eyeshadow palettes offering earthy, bright, and cool shades to mix and match to your heart's content. I love the Fleur de Rose palette. You can definitely do a smoky eye, or opt for more neutral looks with the lighter colors. The Shimmer Liquid Eyeliner (long-lasting formula) compliments the pretty hues.

    25th%20anniversary%20perfume.jpg

Three natural origin fragrances formulated with Depsea Water are also showcased: Fleur de Rose (Ylang Ylang & Turkish Rose), Fleur de Source (Coriander, Papyrus & Basil), and Fleur de Terre (Rosemary & Bergamot).
